Sorry they weren't clearly the best team that year in my opinion They were on of the best teams but the 3rd overall number 1 seed that year. Louisville was the number 1 overall seed and Kansas was the 2nd number 1 seed.

That IU team had a better resume than Louisville and Kansas. We had a ton of crazy good wins. I think we were the best team but an injury to Jordy and having a MAJOR disadvantage AT Head Coach did us in.

I absolutely guarantee that Beard will never coach in Bloomington. No way. No how. RMK, with all of his bitterness (speaking of immaturity), will never allow that... and I have no doubt that he's already poisoned that well beyond recoverability.

Completely agree and though some may think it is funny to even go after him, he is a great coach. I promise you this Chris Beard either stays at Texas Tech for awhile and makes them contenders for the tourney each year which is like most teams winning a title or he goes on to a big job and becomes a force. To throw out RMK's reviews is stupid. We all know him and he doesn't do it often. 10 years from Coach K retiring if he picks a coach that he says is gonna be great well people better at least consider it. I honestly am over Knight but I will respect his opinion always as one of the all time greats. If Knight was throwing out names left and right it'd be one thing but he isn't.

You all bring up very valid points.. I guess I need to stop thinking in terms of where this program is today and look at the bigger picture.

I've said this before but public opinion has no bearing on whether Indiana is a top 5 destination. Every other metric that should measure this fact, Indiana meets the requirements. The Indiana job, thanks to Crean, is essentially a turnkey operation. Plug an elite level coach in, and the machine will produce results. We haven't made a final four since 2002 because of absolutely horrendous administrative decisions. We've been so bad at targeting and hiring coaches, that it's almost as if the admin purposely botched them.

Having lived in Philly years back, IU has no shot at getting Jay Wright.  He landed his dream job, he is a Philly guy and people from Philly do not leave Philly...just the way that it is.  There is a better shot of Santa Claus landing on my house tonight than Jay Wright accepting the IU HC job.

I agree. He's a nova lifer. Nothing wrong with that. He has a great thing going in Philly.

Because they went downhill for the last four games. When they were 24-3 after that win at Michigan State, they were clearly the best team. They were before that game though. IU would have been the overall number 1 seed had the season ended that day. Not that it matters because it wasn't but I'm just saying

The whole season matters correct? 2 of the 3 teams won their conference and conference tournament the other team only won the conference and got bounced in the semi finals of their conference tournament. Every game matters

No matter how much I hate conference tournaments, yes they matter. The committee seems to put more stock in those championships than regular season conference championships. I don't understand that but they're here to stay. I never expect IU to win that damn thing lol

Agreed. Conference tournaments are here to stay. But why play an 18 game regular season schedule just to seed the league for a 5 day tournament?

One could argue that IF you are going to play a conference tournament, you should only allow ONE team per conference into the NCAA … that, in effect, the conference tournaments are part of The Dance.

It makes no sense to me to have the conference beat itself up for 10 weeks, then cram a 14 team tournament into 5 days and then end up playing a conference foe for a S16, EE or FF berth.

It makes for the 2nd best weekend of college basketball. So for hoops junkies I love it. The matchups from Thursday to Sunday of championship week are awesome

Yeah playing an 18 game regular season conference schedule should matter more than a 5 day tournament. The regular season champion used to be the automatic bid. It should still be that way. Conference tournaments pretty much devalue the regular season

I can go along with most of that. However, I am NOT offering sympathy for Crean. He screwed the pooch and deserves to be run out of town on a rail. #fireTomCrean

"OG Anunoby’s season-ending knee injury and James Blackmon’s lingering lower leg issue exist as an explanation for Indiana not being the Final Four contender it appeared they’d be in November and early December. They do not excuse the Hoosiers being 5-8 and destined to finish in the bottom half of a Big Ten Conference that is as weak as it’s been in some time."

I'm so glad that people in the media are picking up on this.
