I liked a post I saw on IUBB twitter so this is not original but I think it sums up what's expected at an elite bball program like IU----Tom Crean came to coach at IU because "It's Indiana" and he was fired because ""It's Indiana". You can be the best person or a great coach but in the end you have to perform at a high level and you are judged by your results. Without apology IU is an elite job with high standards. You meet them and you stay. You don't and you go.

There's a thread on Rupp Rafters for rumors that JBJ is interested in transferring to UK.  If he doesn't go pro I could see that being a possibility.  Hope not, but not too far-fetched.

No way. Not their caliber of talent with all the injuries.

Is this plausible:

Fred knew he was firing Crean 2-3 weeks ago.

-No vote of confidence for Crean.

-No extension for Tom after Big Ten Champ, and by press conference was evident it was not even really considered.

-They withdraw from the tournament in New York.

-BT from 247 says Crean is done and Billy is next hire.

-Other insiders say he is done and we hear about soft landings.

-Glass moves the NIT game to save optics on booing so as to not hurt negotiations with Billy.

-Glass gets word from boosters the money is there for Billy.

-Glass fires Crean

if if this was even close to how it went down, then I take back what I said about Glass and give him a ton of credit.

I obviously don't know Crean personally and I'm sure he's a ok guy.  He did good at IU.  What happened to Riley was wrong.  The boos Crean got was wrong.  But let's face it.  He was being paid 3+ million a year and getting very mediocre results with the exception of 2 or 3 years.  That's a lot of money to be below average in high pressure coaching and with a place with high expectations.  Don't blame the IU administration or fans. If you're Crean, you have to eventually look in the mirror.

2-15 against Wisconsin. Nuff said.

The national media bias is a joke. Not that it hasn't been said here, but IU is an elite program. Fred glass just set the table for expectations. Our administration believes this. Boosters believe this. The fans know this and support this program wholeheartedly. Just need a HC to lead us.

I posted it a few days ago, and its been posted by others. The biggest issue is how many former coaches are in the national media, and being a coach/former coach means you're a member of a fraternity. Those guys defend each other as such.  They aren't fans, but they definitely have a pretty big bias in their view

Is anyone really surprised by their comments? The media is simply asking all Creans friends and family about how they feel about his firing. Of course they're all gona say it sucks, IU made a mistake, he's a great coach, blah blah blah. Not ONE of them talk about his overall record at Indiana, tournament appearances and win % - they only want to highlight his Big Ten Championships.

Dear Harbaughs - NO ONE is questioning the integrity and work ethic of Tom Crean. Everyone knows how much of a family man he is, what a great guy he is and the passion he had for IU basketball. He lost his job because he didn't get the overall job done which is consistently winning, getting to the tourney and competing for National Championships every.single.year - not just every few years.

I think at some point Billy was asking for more money than Glass was confident and possibly backed away from firing Crean.  Hence what the insiders were hearing.  When the Trustees and Boosters go involved he had no choice. And the wednesday night meeting with the Boosters was to get the money for Donovan.

Kent Sterling seems to be the one guy that gets it

Wasn't there a tweet yesterday that he was the only guy to have won 2 B1G titles in the last 9 years, then leave out the fact that he also missed way more tournaments than anyone else on that list too.

Just win baby! Lol seriously, RMK could be a real Jackhole at times but...he won, and won BIG throughout most of his career at Indiana. Winning covers a lot of faults.

For the most part I agree with him, except he's too infatuated with an 'Indiana guy'. Don't know if that's his own opinion or his opinion based on Glass' comments. A couple times he's referenced Randy Wittman and Mike Woodson as potential candidates. The first time he was interviewing Ted Kitchel so I thought he was just being kind, but he's mentioned them a couple times again today.

They may have a wealth of basketball knowledge and coaching experience but all in the NBA. The last time either of them have dealt with recruiting was when they were recruited about 40 years ago.

Why is he so stupid?

Think about this: current role is all about access. Dakich and those like him have to start all over and that requires relationship building skills. By all accounts Dakich does it fairly well. But if an outsider comes in he will have to work harder. Alford would provide Dakich, as a media member and IU alumnus, complete and unrestricted access.

I can't blame them for sticking up for family--but how long does anyone really think Michigan. Would tolerate Harbaugh coaching UM football to multiple seasons just a few games over .500 or ending the year ranked near the bottom of the conference with no prestigious bowl game in sight? Answer? He'd be gone quickly. Same standard should apply because IU basketball is just as important to us as UM football is to Michigan.
