TOM CREAN FIRED

Recommended Posts

Because they went downhill for the last four games. When they were 24-3 after that win at Michigan State, they were clearly the best team. They were before that game though. IU would have been the overall number 1 seed had the season ended that day. Not that it matters because it wasn't but I'm just saying

The whole season matters correct? 2 of the 3 teams won their conference and conference tournament the other team only won the conference and got bounced in the semi finals of their conference tournament. Every game matters

No matter how much I hate conference tournaments, yes they matter. The committee seems to put more stock in those championships than regular season conference championships. I don't understand that but they're here to stay. I never expect IU to win that damn thing lol

I can go along with most of that. However, I am NOT offering sympathy for Crean. He screwed the pooch and deserves to be run out of town on a rail. #fireTomCrean

Agreed. Conference tournaments are here to stay. But why play an 18 game regular season schedule just to seed the league for a 5 day tournament?

One could argue that IF you are going to play a conference tournament, you should only allow ONE team per conference into the NCAA … that, in effect, the conference tournaments are part of The Dance.

It makes no sense to me to have the conference beat itself up for 10 weeks, then cram a 14 team tournament into 5 days and then end up playing a conference foe for a S16, EE or FF berth.

What about a blow out loss at wackey? We dont play well at iowa either. What about a first round loss in big tourney to penn st. Lots of icing could still be put on the crean cake

Seems fitting.

It makes for the 2nd best weekend of college basketball. So for hoops junkies I love it. The matchups from Thursday to Sunday of championship week are awesome

Yeah playing an 18 game regular season conference schedule should matter more than a 5 day tournament. The regular season champion used to be the automatic bid. It should still be that way. Conference tournaments pretty much devalue the regular season

"OG Anunoby’s season-ending knee injury and James Blackmon’s lingering lower leg issue exist as an explanation for Indiana not being the Final Four contender it appeared they’d be in November and early December. They do not excuse the Hoosiers being 5-8 and destined to finish in the bottom half of a Big Ten Conference that is as weak as it’s been in some time."

I'm so glad that people in the media are picking up on this.

Conference tournaments should only have the top 8 teams. It makes the conference regular season mean something, can 'eliminate' some of the bubble teams in major conference and allows some smaller conferences to get some glow instead of 12 vs 13 games from the B1G, ACC, or SEC. Silly thought also, it would allow the kids to attend a few more classes.

That does not include Bob kravitz. I heard him on the radio and he is 110% running with the injury excuses and claims the season is an abberation. He thinks it's laughabe crean should be fired. I find him laughable and a bit delusual or mentally unstable.

I have a feeling our skid will do wonders for the mystique of OG Anunoby.

He wasn't having a great year by any standards (he was having a solid year though) but the coincidence of the timing of our skid will help him immensely in draft rooms.

The opposite effect was Blackmon last season.

The causal relationship isn't cut and dry but it's the most simplistic connection.

OG will still be first round if he decides to leave.

I think that was a more accurate perspective, but it still glossed over/ignored that this team looked bad before the injuries.

I agree, it's the 2nd best weekend behind the first weekend of the NCAA tourney. I just wish the B1G conference tourney would go to the 16 seed format with the 1st and 2nd seeds getting a bye (i.e. 15th and 16th seeds = bye) and the committee putting no weight on the tourneys except the automatic bid for the winner

Yeah... I posted a link to one of his columns earlier this week. Kravitz has always been a shill for Crean... and an overall tool. Alway was, even back in the days when RMK roamed the sideline.

That would be nice but this is a good start, imo. The more people we can get to say "wow this team still has a lot of talented players on it even after injuries, there's no way they should be this bad" the better. Once we get their attention I think they'll look more closely at our season and see that things went to crap before anyone got hurt.

I was talking with a coworker today and he brought up a good question: When did you know Tom Crean wasn't the right fit for IU?

He responded that he knew he was not the right coach in Creans third year, when he was at a game and Crean made a bizarre substitution, he and his friend looked at each other and said "oh gosh we made a mistake", then saying at least Mike David knew who his 5 best players were.

I responded that I felt Crean was the wrong fit, not when IU got embarrassed in the S16, but the following year. Crean should have been so mad about the S16 loss that he spent the entire offseason drooling over it and finding ways to beat the **** out of Syracuse the next time they play, instead we played Syracuse in the ACC challenge and got embarrassed again.

When did you know he was the wrong fit?

His comically inept "preparation" (if that's what you can call it) for the Syracuse zone was a major red flag.  I started getting off the Crean wagon the next season when he somehow managed to miss the NIT with 2 burger boys.  Final straw?  The next season when he couldn't get a single player on the team to make an effort to play something even remotely resembling defense.
