Popular Post hoosierpap Posted December 23, 2015 Popular Post Posted December 23, 2015 Sorry. I am late on this particular topic. I did see the SC coach on the bench and give Crean a "man hug" before the team took the court for tip off. For some reason that stuck in my head. Surprisingly there is a discussion about it this morning. The more I look into this, the more disgusted I get. Why is he on the bench? Is he the team motivation speaker? For who? the players or the coach? If he has this SC coach on the bench for anything, that shows that he has lost total control of this team and has given up. I am so sick of this "everyone wins" tee-ball team attitude. Why do these players need someone to motivate them? That is the downfall of this team. If this team needs motivated, then it needs to come from the Head Coach. If this coach doesn't get his message across then sit their ass on the pine until they get motivated. I have been upset with past seasons before but this is the first time that I have been disgusted by what I have seen. Have you figured out what the reason is that it stuck in your head? Why does it matter to you who is on the bench and who isn't? When did this become an issue? For anything? When did Crean lose control and give up? Je'nay Jackson had been on the bench since 2010-2011. They were pretty good two years after that. I don't like Crean, but this stuff some of you guys are coming up with is petty and just...weird? But looking forward to some insight into why it's not MemphisHoosier, Walking Boot of Doom, Stuhoo and 11 others 14 Quote
mdn82 Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 Serious question.. Do any of the current top 25 teams face any of the same issues detailed in the Kent Sterrling article? Are the S&C coaches frantic on the sidelines at the other top 25 schools? If not, then what in the heck is CTC doing? As of last season Kentucky had theirs on the bench. http://www.aseaofblue.com/2015/6/24/8842267/kentucky-wildcats-rock-oliver-per-report Walking Boot of Doom and MartintheMopMan 2 Quote
Old Friend Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 That game was pure karma for them. Butler is far and away the most stable and consistent program due to foundation laid 15-20 years ago. With the right people from the athletic department down we will be back far quicker. Indeed. We need two things : 1) An administration that understands WHY Butler is so good. They recruit smart players who are willing to play as a unit, and that means they don't always go after the numbers guys...the spotlight guys. Their coaches game plan and their teams execute. And they understand the program is bigger than they are. 2) A cultural overhaul. A win against ND, just as Sterling said, is not some great accomplishment. At Indiana, we expect to win games like that routinely. It is not a surprise when it happens, and it should not be celebrated beyond the normal "nice win...good job. Who's next?" A coach who thinks fake effort is an accomplishment. Who speaks in such platitudes, his own fan base calls BS on a regular basis. Indiana needs great coaches, great, committed team players, and an administration which understands the value of a consistently successful men's basketball program. We have none of that at the moment. What we DO have is a coach and small group of fans that believe you can throw darts, stockpile relatively high profile players who have ability with the ball, and somehow form a successful team. The recruitment of Gelon, while individually not a huge deal, shows me that on some level, somebody might be willing to make some minor changes. Major ones are needed, but at least it's a step. Indiana wins when we make jump shots. Butler wins because they game plan, they execute, and they do so consistently. I know which brand I'd rather watch. AZ Hoosier and mdn82 2 Quote

Some people just look for more reason to dislike Crean more than they already do. If they want to go down this route that's cool, but misguided. thebigweave, BlueDevil, Hovadipo and 8 others 11 Quote

To me he is fine on the bench but don't curse and try talking basketball to the players unless he is smarter than crean and can make us elite again MikeRoberts 1 Quote
JSHoosier Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 It's classic obfuscation. If you cannot create the genuine, then use smoke, mirrors and hype to try to imitate the genuine. That's one thing that Crean's pretty good at. *clap clap clap* So he's a firm believer of the fake it until you make it theory. Big problem though, he'll never make it. AZ Hoosier 1 Quote

To me he is fine on the bench but don't curse and try talking basketball to the players unless he is smarter than crean and can make us elite again I am near this viewpoint. I don't care if he is on the bench either. He was just WAY over the top all game. Looked unprofessional. That's all. Too me, it's not a reason to dislike Crean or anything to do with Crean. When the announcers are talking about the reactions and ref warnings towards a member of the bench who is not the head coach, generally that person is out of line. Like I say, not a big deal, if I were coach I would have a talk with him about toning it down and continue forward. MikeRoberts, Old Friend, IUsafety and 2 others 5 Quote

8bucks Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 Along the same lines I was watching the UCLA game before ours and one of their players came to the bench after a bad pass. The bench and coaches did not stand up and high five him and celebrate his return to the bench like what happens here every time we sub. The player did not go all the way down the bench getting attaboys like here. No Alford chewed the kid out for about 30 seconds. I am tired of our teams approach to celebrated everything Quote
mdn82 Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 not by crean. Maybe by refs lolI completely agree with that. I just don't see a ref letting a S&C coach get by with that. coonhounds 1 Quote
Popular Post Naturalhoosier Posted December 23, 2015 Popular Post Posted December 23, 2015 Lol it's crazy how far the hatred for Crean has come. I want him gone really bad but want him to be remembered positively. We are now in bad breakup territory and he won't be appreciated as much as should be for what he initially did for the program. Just don't see a clean breakup anymore. Stuhoo, Bobman1, HoosierAloha and 6 others 9 Quote
