BtownBanner6 Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Thunder are playing well and 3rd in the west, so I wouldn't call that super likely. But I could see Durant leaving for sure this offseason. Yeah not making the playoffs was the possibility. Quote
WayneFleekHoosier Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Donovan would be my 2nd pick as well, but he seems enamored by the NBA. Flirted with NBA before, now this. Even if Durant and Westbrook leave which I think they will, he will likely stay in NBA. I have a feeling the B1G is weak enough this year to save Crean his job. Starting to feel that way. Although, Crean is good at losing to bad teams, so you never know. Quote

Although, Crean is good at losing to bad teams, so you never know. It's set up perfectly for him to fail. An average coach could go 13-5 or better with this schedule, which means he'll probably go 12-6 or 11-7. Then he'll probably talk about what a grind the league is and how hard it is to win every night, along with any other excuses he can find. Quote

B1G is certainly not as strong as in prior years, but I believe the die has already been cast that CTC is gone barring an absolute miracle and IMO that ain't gonna happen. As Wayne noted, he's good at losing to bad teams and then there's our typical late season el foldo. And if he can't pull the miracle this year he certainly won't next year because I believe we're looking at a complete roster makeover - Yogi, Max, Z graduate; JBJ and Troy NBA or more likely overseas; an inevitable transfer out. John Calipari and maybe Coach K. could win with a boatload of freshmen and sophomores; CTC can't. He's simply not good enough. Quote
HoosierTrav Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Here's something I have been pondering for awhile.. Say Stevens does decide to return to college basketball next summer.. But it is not to IU. How do people react? I have no sources saying he will or won't it is just something I have been thinking about for awhile. Jeff_Boy_Ardee Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Chris Mack has Xavier ranked #6, highest ranking in school history. Not saying he's the guy, though I would personally have him ranked pretty high, just adding fuel to the fire and seeing what peoples that may know more than me opinions are on him. Guys like Mack show there are guys in between Crean and BS that are better. 4 sweet sixteens in 6 years. This may be the year to do even more. Yeah we expect more than a sweet sixteen but if you look that has almost become his standard, not the peak. Quote
AKHoosier Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Chris Mack would be acceptable, but he'd be on the second or third tier of coaches on my wish list if there was a change. Lifetime 66% winning percentage, never further than the Sweet 16 in 6 years, although he has a team playing really well now. There would have to be like 4 or 5 guys who say "no" first before we give him a call. Quote

There would have to be like 4 or 5 guys who say "no" first before we give him a call. He certainly wouldn't be in my top 2 or 3 but his resume is better than Crean's was. In 6 full years he's finished top 3 half the time and never lower than t-6th while winning it twice; plus he's only missed the tourney once and in the Sweet 16 half the time he's been there, the only outlier is when he missed the tournament. Compared to Crean who had been a coach for 9 years, missed the tournament almost half the time and never got past the second round without DWade. Certainly not a homerun, but already looks more impressive than Crean ever has. 8bucks and MikeRoberts 2 Quote
MartintheMopMan Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Isn't Chris Mack pretty much right where he wants to be? He played at Xavier and put in a lot of years under other coaches. Plus, it's his hometown. I think he could do well, but he's probably pretty satisfied with how things are. Happydaze 1 Quote

MikeRoberts Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Holtmann and Mack have to be in the running. No Stevens, no Donovan no Bennett, then these two are up there Quote
Josh Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Please no to Mack. After that brawl between Xavier and Cincinnati about 5 years ago I'm still jaded on the thugs in those programs. Quote
