TOM CREAN FIRED

Recommended Posts

Those that went through the Davis era is this worse? I feel it is. When we fired knight and went to davis we lost alot of good Bob knight fans but now we are losing alot of good iu fans and I don't blame them at times it is to much to take. Turnovers and selfish play and no defense is hardly indiana basketball.

Im full in now. I was giving him this year to pull onto one side of the fence or the other.

Here's the thing, even if we hire the same level coach at the very least we can all have renewed hope and faith in the program getting back to doing big things.

Here's challenge though. If you guys are serious about firing Crean, do NOT go to another game until he is gone. Once the hall starts going empty, u force Fred's hand. The problem is, yogi doesn't deserve that. But when does the cycle stop? We can't just let the dude run out his entire freaking contract. I dunno the answer. I'd like to just say boycott the program and stop going to the games. Too simple though. Maybe its wrong to be connected to the players. They don't even know we exist for the most part so lets cut the cord..

Just thoughts and ramblings

This is an example of why I think you have to consider a midseason move. The fan base was ready last year but reluctantly backed off when TB committed and the others came back. Then Maui and folks who had been on his side and jumping ship too.

Thinking they we have to get Fred's attention will lead to drastic ideas like this and will only lead to guys like Seth Davis whining about how we are treating a "great" coach. The torches and pitchforks will seem necessary to make s statement because Fred cannot say anything negative until he pulls the plug.

If you make a midseason move then the fan pressure backs off a little and we can fully support the team without the distraction of the coach.

Can't see him getting fired mid season unless more kids get in trouble. Would be nice, couldn't hurt

This won't happen.  But Indiana has to know with absolute certainty whether or not Brad Stevens would entertain the job if it were available.  Every move we make from that point forward depends on his answer.

Jay Will was disgusted with the Hoosiers. I am right there too. Ugly, ugly basketball.

The excuses make my skin crawl. The thing is, this is not new to IU fans but the whole basketball community watched this trainwreck.

These players had a perfect opportunity to showcase their skills as a team and as an individual and the opposite occurred. This tournament set us so far back.

I wanted to feel/hear everyone about before I start feeling strongly about it but boycotting the games might be the start of the answer. I hate the thought for the sake of Hartman, yogi, ziesloft, Bryant and some.. But is that false sense of connection worth watching our program waller in mediocrity and 5th place big ten finishes??

Im pretty sure if the move was actually made that a huge name would drop in the bucket. I would literally sign a shorter term lateral hire before keeping Crean. I'd give Archie 5 years max to make something happen and make the fans believe again, for example..

Fans not caring anymore is the last thing that can happen and that is exactly the road we are on.. About 2 miles in, I'd say.

I graduated from Indiana University with a business degree.  That makes me very proud.  I am proud of our athletics, all of them.  Disappointed?  Yes.  But, never once have I thought "Hmm, the president of the University needs to be fired because our worldwide reputation as a learning institution has been compromised by losing basketball games".  I would be proud to be a Hoosier if we had no athletic programs.  Would you?  Our academic programs have many donors and grants.  Never said your opinion doesn't count.

I am a graduate of Indiana University who witnessed a National Championship season while a student. While that makes me old it also makes me in the minority here. Yes I'm very proud to be a graduate and Hoosier by birth. One question for you. If you would have ever witnessed a national championship or would consider Indiana a blueblood program having won 5 of them, would you settle for what we have now? Afterall, we are on an Indiana basketball forum and not the Kelly School of Business.

Any examples of coaches being fired early into a season for performance?

Becoming more normal. The linked article mentioned some things I had not thought of but I thin it misses the rabid fan base issue I mentioned above. Keeping Crean around (assuming no major turn around in play) will further frustrate the fan base and that has the potential to make us all look bad.

@AndyWittry: Crean: “We don’t have the frontline we were projected to have. We don’t have the frontline we thought we were going to have."

Creans thought process.

More excuses. When we actually do get Bryant the ball down low good things usually happen but its rare.

There is a lot more to Indiana University than athletics, no one will deny that.  However, athletics are a very visible part and in our case a huge portion of that is basketball.  Athletics act like a window.  Successful teams get more people interested in attending and bring in more money.  No one is making the argument that athletics should be the soul part or that the university president should be solely focused on them.  Should he be interested in their success though?  Absolutely.

Tom Crean may be in trouble, and that's not a knock on him.

Oh, and I'm definitely not on the "Fire Crean" bandwagon. Who better is available?

I don't know if it's worse, but it's not much better.  Believe it or not I think Crean is a better coach than Davis, but I wouldn't trust Davis coaching a pickup game so there is that (and now I see Crean's street ball offense, way to go JS).  With both I find myself a lot of times watching and saying the team wasn't prepared, and I don't think we're going to win the in game chess match.

We don't have a TEAM!  We have a bunch of players running around the court with little sense of direction, i.e., on-court leadership and sideline coaching.  Individually, most of the squad have D-1 basketball talent but it's not talent that meshes together to form a TEAM.  IMO that's reflective of the shotgun approach we use in recruiting.  I think we are literally teetering on the edge of the cliff and if we don't get it turned around before B1G, I don't think it gets turned around and January and February are going to be very ugly months.

Well at least we don't have to go back to a hotel on the beautiful Maui island upset knowing that you laid an egg. And knowing that you have to take a long flight back home and try to enjoy some family time while also knowing you have to find a way to right this ship quickly.

That article about it not being easy being TC really applies right now. Gonna be a long week for them

Couldn't agree more! FIRE CREAN, FIRE CREAN...but who would you hire? He's good...got some bad apples who will be out of the program soon enough. Why is no one screaming BENCH YOGI, SIT BLACKMON?

Fire Crean. Wait until the end of the year and pay B Stevens 10million.
