IUFB Offseason Updates

Seems moderately newsworthy from Osterman IU is entering into a field-naming agreement with Merchants Bank. Effective immediately, the Memorial Stadium playing surface has been renamed Merchants Bank Field at Memorial Stadium. Total commitment from Merchants is $50 million. https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/college/indiana/2025/08/21/indiana-football-field-merchants-bank-sponsor-why-money-college-sports-nil-revenue-share/85749126007/7 points -

Well in fairness, in Bobby's 1st year as head coach, just how much stuff did the average student have in the way of worldly possessions? Basically all I had in 1966 was a small radio, a Royal portable typewriter and my clothes.4 points -

1. Depends. Short answer, more than likely. But if there are multiple 10-2 teams it gets trickier. For example, if UM, Illini, a dark horse (say USC) and some SEC schools finish 10-2, then we got an uphill battle. Finishing undefeated or with one loss then we're back in the playoffs 100%. 2. PLAYOFFS!! Aside from winning it, a CFP appearance is the most prestigious accomplishment in college football. It's the reason we're currently get hammered by the SEC media about our appearance last year. They want that spot for a reason. We broke the status quo by going 11-1 in the Big Ten conference. Now the selection committee is changing the criteria on getting an at-large selection. Going forward, we should be looking at playing in a non CFP bowl as a participation trophy. CFP gets the eyes of the 5 and 4 star recruits, it brings in more money to the program, it improves the brand, it is the whole enchilada. It's the new tradition now. Wanting to play in a bowl over the CFP is like saying you would rather walk to your vacation destination instead of flying to it.4 points -

These doofuses are insufferable. But I love IUFB being relevant enough to piss off the SEC shills. Yeah, IU’s non-conference stinks. Guess what, we play 9 conference games. The sheer stupidity of Finebaum lauding Alabama for playing freaking Wisconsin while ignoring that IU plays them too this season makes me laugh. We aren’t all lucky enough to get an FCS tune-up game in mid-November. https://twitter.com/rygi13/status/1958264613725966708?s=46&t=LoczziaTWuqlhvyvHGT92A3 points -

These were both really neat to see. One of the things I heard often about NBA guys coming back down to college is just not realizing that you have to be hands on and teach -- these kids are malleable and still developing and you see this coaching staff so engaged and *teaching*. Just to round it out, here's Rod Clark mic'd up: https://x.com/IndianaMBB/status/19433394396082057993 points -
I understand that from the perspective of needing to have Peacock, but if you’ve already got it…those were my favorite broadcasts last year for football and basketball. I’d much rather be there than BTN, unless “BIG. RED. CARPET.” guy is on the call.3 points

Deion gets a tough rap from fans, but he’s a-okay by me: ————————————- "No slides. If I see you with them - I'm gonna send people to campus - if I see you with slides on campus, it's gonna be a problem," Sanders told his players. "If I see you with a hoodie on in class, or some headphones on in class, it's gonna be a problem. If I see you sitting in the back of the classroom, it's gonna be a problem. Do we understand that?" Sanders is also implementing strict rules for Colorado players enrolled in online courses. "If you're online, and you have online classes, and you don't have a shirt on or you got a wife beater on, or you've got something stupid on that's causing a distraction, or you're walking about during an online session, it's gonna be a problem," Sanders said.2 points -

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA Paul Finebaum is maaad. And not especially 'truthy.' HE MAAAAAD!! It would be kinda funny if he really understands the truth and is just trolling for ratings. But it would be truly delicious if he actually believes this stuff!2 points -

One thought on the TBD's -- I think Peacock is the most annoying one for a lot of folks. Peacock gets eight or nine B1G games per year. We got stuck with one last year and my hope is we avoid a Peacock game this year as the schools who avoided it last year get stuck with one this year.2 points -

1) If we play Oregon and PSU reasonably competitively I’d say we’re in. 2) Playoff. That’s what the team would want and the other bowls don’t really matter much anymore and players often sit out, etc. Making the playoff is a huge deal — you’re either a playoff team or you aren’t. Just my $0.02.2 points -

More from Osterman. In FY23, IU logged $1.5 million in football-specific licensing and sponsorship revenue in its annual report to the NCAA. Now, how money is classified on those things can be jinked around. But that's probably the best historical comparison point we have.1 point -

Woah, dude, nice job! So, do you then clean them, box them up and sell them for like a million dollars a lb as wild caught salmon or are those for you?1 point -
There's only 1 sold out game on the schedule. I can buy 4 for Wisconsin right now, from IU, for $280. And weather niceness is subjective, but I sat on the surface of the sun watching IU pound Charlotte last year on the same weekend that we play Illinois this year. Not a business expert by any means, but I think making IUFB accessible in the non-con pays better gains long term than trying to squeeze every cent you can out of tickets.1 point

Reading through this thread brought all the emotions back up for me wanting Woodson fired so bad it literally almost made me root for Ls. Made me wonder was there ever Fire Woodson T-Shirts made so I Google search. Now I know this shirt (which popped up on Walmart website) isn't directed at Woody and he is no longer here. However I'm still going to buy it for $20 because I still want him FIRED not retired!1 point -

I mean, is he really? Don't know him personally and I'm not saying he is a bad guy, but does a good guy surround himself with yes men and fire those that dare disagree? Does a good guy mock a large portion of the fan base? Does a good guy doing a half assed job proclaim himself "King of Indiana?" Does a good guy collect million yet refuse to go out and do his job on the recruiting trail? From afar he looks more like an entitled lazy @$$ with a fragile ego, not a horrible human, but far from a good guy.1 point
