  1. I am really enjoying the idea of Hart telling Cal, “ Yeah, IU’s trying to decide if they have room for me. So I’ll get back to you mid-week.”

There is no worse officiating in sports than a college basketball ref calling a charge. They're absolutely horrendous at it. It's worse than NFL refs trying to figure out what a catch is.

The problem with you young guys is that you don't realize the game actually existed before you were born. The game has been played at a high level for years so no need to change this rule. I hate to break the news to you but the product you see on the court in college today isn't even close to what we saw he the 80's and 90's. Some of the play today is almost unwatchable

  5. Woody can no longer stand fully erect because of his back and sadly, all of us shrink a bit as we age. Interesting side story but on a visit to the aircraft carrier USS Midway now a museum and permanently anchored at San Diego, a film clip informed us that if a pilot has to eject he'll be 2" shorter when he lands due to the compression on his spine from the force of the ejection. 8. Because it's a garbage bailout for bad defenses. To believe it's somehow a "good rule" to purposefully get in the way of another player to get ran over is foolish. Contest the shot or get out of the way. Freedom of movement is for everywhere on the court... Unless someone just randomly slides underneath someone to get ran over.

  9. Sure it was, just watch the Georgetown team in the 80's that defense was bad. Our IU 76 team was a great defensive team. Players back in the day were more experience and more fundamentally sound. Teams were better because they stayed together for 4 years. Until they learn the adapt in college the 30 second clock causes to many forced and contested shots at the end of the clock. It also caused every team to play the same way and there is very little originality in the offense today. You had teams average over a 100 before the shot clock but also had teams run good offense until they got a good shot.

  12. Significant IRS ruling that NIL collectives are not tax-exempt. https://www.si.com/college/2023/06/10/irs-name-image-likeness-collectives-not-tax-exempt It's my understanding that the primary IU Collective never applied for status as a tax-exempt entity and is thus not impacted by this IRS ruling.

For me there is way to much dribbling in the half court and driving out if control to the basket. If teams actually move their players on the offensive end and pass more there would be less charges to be called.

  16. At around 1:50 mark, they start a segment about Wilcher and Mgbako going to rival schools. They talk about being pretty tight friends off the court... just a nugget considering some speculated they don't get along... (Wilcher also says later in the video he is proud of Mgbako and mentions he's grown up playing with/around them) Maybe I'm dead wrong but I don't see SJU working out here. If we get a foot in the door I think we have as good a chance as anyone.

  17. Why is that because that is part of defense. If the defender is there in time and is set why should the offense he allowed to just roll over someone.

  18. Race gave his all to IU and I'm glad he will always be a Hoosier. That said, I feel as though Woodson being able to get guys like Race Thompson NBA workouts, is another stepping stone on the way to really elevating this program.

  21. Mustaf is listed anywhere from 6'6 to 6'4. These guys profile heights and weights aren't going to often be correct for 2 reasons. Kids at this age are constantly growing and just aren't updated. Equally so the other reason is that the heights are almost always inflated by 2 to 3 inches.

  22. It seems IU is interested in Wilcher and Reeves too and foremost. Sounds like Hart wants to make a decision by end of weekend, and I don’t think we have answers from Wilcher/Reeves before then. Interesting conundrum.

  24. Strawman argument. And the new rule does not allow a player to slide underneath.

  25. This I would agree with. Really any rule that can’t be called consistently called correctly either needs to be revamped or something I have been saying for years basketball needs another official. These guys have gotten too fast and too athletic

  26. Wanna bring back the peach baskets and no dribbling too? The game has to evolve and the charge/block is #1 worst call of the game. The absolute most inconsistent, most dangerous and absurd rule in the game. Get rid of it, you get a better product. Plain and simple.

  29. Mulcahy at UK with his barely okay jump shot and cheap shot personality, paired with a team of me-first freshmen would be must see tv. UK could use a senior citizen player; hoping this happens because it will be highly entertaining.

  30. I like Walker a lot. Gives me a strong Aaron Gordon vibe. Not quite that level of athlete, but the same sort of player who doesn’t need the ball to really impact winning and just a complete dawg. If they try move up for someone that would make sense since there’s no way they’re gonna use all of their picks. But the one late kid I’m interested in is Whitehead if enough teams are spooked by the foot thing. His floor is a good 3 and D guy and he’s got star ceiling. No way he should be around at 26, but if he is you have got to do that unless his medical is bad.

  33. Story on Joey Hart and this quote from him: “They (Indiana) are waiting on decisions from other guys, I believe.” “I’m definitely interested in IU and I think they are interested in me as well,” Hart said. “We’ll see where we’re at after (the Kentucky visit) … they said they would get back to me after my trip to Kentucky.” He visits KY today. https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/high-school/2023/06/10/linton-stockton-guard-joey-hart-indiana-kentucky-rutgers/70309177007/

  34. Then just get rid of every rule since they’ll be missed sometimes.

  35. Maybe we should just do away with dribbling and just let players to run with ball like a running back. The game has been played at a high rate for years but young guys want to just change everything. If you have only seen one way of the game being played you don't have the advantage of seeing different ways of playing.

  36. I'm not sure why anyone is wasting even a second arguing about this. It should be pretty obvious to anyone who has watched college bball in the last decade exactly what will happen. During the first two months of the season the refs will hyper focus on the rule change to the point that it slows down the game and repeatedly stops momentum. Despite this hyper focus, the refs will still get the call wrong more often than not. Then just in time for conference season, the refs will conveniently forget the rule change ever occurred. Regardless of the time of the season, Edey will be allowed to bulldoze defenders out of his way, grab and hold the defenders arms and push opponents with superior rebounding position in the back. In short, even if there was a good chance that the rule changes would improve the game, the refs won't call it consistently and will soon forget about the rule change.

  37. This type of basketball is an invitation for even more horrible basketball stylistically. The game isn’t hurt by charge calls on guys who put their head down and charge towards the basket. Enforcing rules that reward guys for good position will result in more movement away from the ball and an overall better product. The circle under the basket wasn’t a bad compromise for people who like to see drive-heavy basketball. They can leave it at that for all I care.

Who said anything about those rules. I like both the 3 point line and the shot click. The shot click should be at 45 seconds and not 30. The 30 second clock leads to way more forced shots at the end of the clock and a little more bad shots taken. When it was 45 you very rarely even noticed the clock because most teams would get a good shot on most possessions. I also think coaches today micro manage to much and don't let players play with de freedom. RMK had the reputation of a defensive coach and didn't allow players to play with freedom which wasn't even close to being true. His best teams would usually get a shot off the first 15 seconds of a possession and averaged it ver 80 a game.

  40. Yea sure... Let's go back to no 3pt line, no shot clock and no dunking. Sound good? Can even bring in the peach baskets for aesthetics.
