  4. This is his 2nd unofficial visit to IU. To spend their own money for not only a first but a second visit says something, I wouldn't be shocked to see him use an official visit and us be a top contender for this kid when it's all said and done.

  6. Things that make me smile: "Bates is a shot maker, the most essential tool in today’s game and Bates has it in spades. He played a vital role on this season’s IMG team as the best perimeter shooter, but also their best perimeter defender," Rivals' national analyst Jamie Shaw said. "It may be easy to pigeonhole Bates into the 3 & D moniker, and that is not a bad thing, but he has a little more shake to his game than that. Bates is good in transition and can knock down a 1-2 dribble pull up, but make no mistakes his offensive game is predicated on his deep range."

  8. Nobody "likes" the idea, it is just matter of making good decisions and IU already requires masks indoors so the precedent is there.

  10. And our run game against Cinci. We gotta get that figured out. A start to that would be keeping the defense guessing on run/pass. We haven’t been effective doing that. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

  11. Just saying very likely. Nothing in life is absolute! Closely listen and read Clowney's words about IU after visit AND the mother's too. LOVED IT!!!!!! Didn't hear much after FL or VA Tech. Says a lot! And he will see Alabama not a basketball school. We should all know in about 2/3 weeks based on his self-imposed timeline and put this issue to rest:)

  12. IIRC, he transferred/moved into Blackford? From Brownsburg maybe? That's not accurate. He transferred moved into Blackford as a freshman. He was never enrolled at Brownsburg and was never going to go there. I don't count anything that happens in AAU because people move teams every time the wind blows for all kinds of reasons. He's quit on 1 team and who knows the real details on that. People just like to find ways to take shots at the kid for some dumb reason.

  30. I know that i have no rep here but the recent addition for VT was Plan B. They really pushed for a commitment from Clowney on the visit. Went with whomever popped first. After his visit this weekend to Bama he will be a Hoosier within 2 weeks. Family will weight all things but IU has been in the drivers seat for quite some time and nothing between now and his decision day should change that.

  36. Weingarten is a really good follow. Kind of doubt that Wessler and Clowney are an either/or proposition, but would be really, really happy to be wrong. Aside: Young visiting Jackson at this point, who has a spectacular offer list and no current Va Tech offer, is about as unsubtle an effort to leverage Rodney Rice as it could possibly be. Rice’s people are probably either laughing out loud or annoyed by the ham handedness.

  44. While the Penix of old was capable of beating top teams because of great play, it remains to be seen whether current Penix can. What we do know is that current Penix is more than capable of being the reason why we lose to a top 10 team. Can Tuttle give us average against a good team? Because average beats Cincinnati on Saturday. We haven’t seen OSU Penix in any other game before or since that game. And really, it was only half of that game. The first half was pedestrian. That game also happened in a completely empty stadium. We’re not going to (hopefully) see that setting ever again. That’s not to minimize that game, as it was an amazing game, but I’m not holding out hope that we see anything close to that from him again. The last play of the PSU game is what everyone remembers, but as a whole it was a very mediocre game from him. 19/36 for 170 yards, 1 td and 1 int. As far as leashes, I vote for no leash at all. Penix should be benched and Tuttle should start on Saturday against WKU. He needs game reps to get prepared for the gauntlet we have coming up. He’s completed 48% of his passes and thrown 6 interceptions against our two BCS opponents this year. 31 completions to our team and 6 completions to the other team. Potential has been the key word with penix. People have seen his strong arm and moments of greatness and thought about his potential for greatness. But at some point that has to actually materialize. Its his fourth season at IU. At this point, more often than not he’s been inconsistent and injury prone. I’m ready to move on, and if history is an indicator at some point we’ll have to because of injury anymore. He’s never played more than six games in a season, and he’s never lasted until the end of one.

How long a leash on Penix?

I agree that if you want to beat an OSU, PSU, or someone like that you need Penix to do that. I think Tuttle can manage a win against WKU or Purdue but not sure he can beat a top 25 team. I think that is why you stick with Penix. IU football this season has been like waiting for Christmas to get here, then three presents in so far we've only got socks and underwear.
