  2. IMO one of the better articles discussing where IU basketball is today and the conclusion is it's time to cut the cord. https://www.si.com/college/indiana/basketball/tom-brew-finally-time-for-indiana-to-move-on-from-archie-miller?fbclid=IwAR18EwLyMeQ7DIrbcrTnbLkPKoHXi9UUdqFp4PBm_i8rBkh_Mv_YdMYLxoU

  4. I'm sad that this thread exists. I was very vocal about how bad Archie would be as a coach here. I took heat for it, but I could clearly see how bad he would be. For his first couple years here, I couldn't wait until it was over. I couldn't wait to be vindicated. I couldn't wait to tell people how brilliant I am when it comes to picking the IU coach and they were idiots. Now that everybody has realized it, I don't feel proud. I feel sad. I hate where we are. I hate the results Archie has produced. I was right on Archie, but that doesn't mean I'll be right on the next coach. Many posters here were wrong on Archie, but that doesn't mean they'll be wrong on the next one. We just need a fresh start. We need solidarity. Archie must go.

  5. We’ve been saying “if XYZ happen then we might be a good team next year” for four years now. It hasn’t happened. No one should expect anything different come next season.

  6. Indiana got blown out by Indiana State, IPFW, Nebraska and Rutgers by a total of 57 points in his first season. Those losses are inexcusable and had he won those, which we weren’t really close in doing, that’s 20 wins and we are a shoe in for the NIT and likely in the tourney. He had plenty of head scratching blow out losses in year two as well. Those both should have been 20 win seasons. You can’t ditch work on Monday and then show up on Tuesday and when your getting fired say “hey, I at least showed up today, so that’s progress”. When your starting at a baseline of squat, progress argument is moot. and at least for me, had he made the tourney in each of his first 3 seasons then being a bubble team in year 4 wouldn’t have me in the “fire him” camp. If your worst year is “bubble” I can deal with that

  9. Game of the year candidate so far. Michigan up 1 with 6:30 to play. Regardless of the outcome both these teams are 1 seeds

  10. He apparently isn’t good at the getting old and staying old thing. In year 4 Archie has the second youngest team in the B1G according to Ken Pom. Purdue is the youngest team

  11. I personally had enough when we lost to Purdue again this year. Also, I was giving him time to get his "old" team that he wants. It doesn't matter old or young, every team he puts on the floor looks the same and it doesn't turn my crank! Very boring basketball to watch imo. Watching missed free throw after missed free throw really makes my blood pressure sky-rocket!

  12. Dan Dakich does PR like Indiana basketball does general game strategy. Ugly, muddy, and makes most that follow it cringe a lot!

  13. I actually like dakich but what I find outrageous that he has said in the last couple games was knight is the only one who cares about the undefeated streak and is getting his vodoo dolls out ignoring the fact that knight probably has zero clue what is even going on this season. The other outrageous thing is that he told knight while he was a assistant to get in the refs ear to change the game lol. We all know knight would have smacked him in the head if he said any such thing to him. He was the general he isn't listening to one of his former players he let pretend to be a assistant Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

  14. Apathy is at an all-time high. I know people who used to watch the games religiously that just can't do it anymore. The buyout might seem like a lot, but keeping Miller for another year just to reduce it is only going to result in more ugly basketball and more fans moving on to their new post-Covid hobbies. It's like not getting vaccinated because you're afraid of the side effects. The side effects, or in this case, the buyout, are preferable to getting the disease itself (more Archie Miller basketball and more apathy toward the program).

  15. This is more than message board and fan frustration. When the Indianapolis Star runs this headline it is beyond crazy fan expectations. A week or so ago Doyle also wrote a negative piece on Archie. he has lost the media as well as the fans

  21. It wasn’t just one thing for me but the moment I made a big mental turn was the Purdue game. The looks on their faces and their demeanor the whole game was that they already knew they were going to win that game. So much more ready and prepared. There is the laundry list of everything else we all discuss that was already boiling beneath the surface. But that game was the straw.

  22. Howard at Michigan as well. My grandpa is 88 years old and has probably never even heard of message boards. He’s as disgusted with the program as much as any poster on here. The feeling is definitely in the general fan population at this point. Anyone who follows IU basketball at all knows we suck. I started to doubt Archie in his second season when we lost 12 out of 13 games. That team had no business being that bad. I believed the rumors that the issues were issues with player chemistry. I believed that things would be different once those individuals were gone. Well, they’re gone and the problems are still there. When you have the same problem as players cycle in and out, it’s a coaching issue.

  23. It would take some unification from IU fans, multiple boards and social media posters and beyond bonding together for some action. it could be as easy, little as a million online signatures that addressed the love and passion of those signing and the displeasure for the product we have. An option that is a bit more to bite off is the same but backing it with a million dollars to help aid, support and force action. Crowd sourced million dollars to be paid out if used before April of next year to replace Archie. If the school didn’t use it before then for said action, dollars would be returned to the donor - a go fund me type if you will. the fans are hungry, tired and I don’t think it is at all crazy to think we could get 50,000 people to pay $20 each. Of course donate more/less but that would be a message of support that goes beyond individuals bitching on message boards. while a million doesn’t cover the buyout all in number, that all in number isn’t a real number and a million up front would go a long long way

  26. Everything about that 2018 class has hurt and really set Archie back. He inherited one recruiting class, which he couldn't do much about, and he has 3 of his own. The 2020 class looks like it will be very good. The 2019 class looks elite with TJD a top B10 player and Armaan looking like he could become one. But the 2018 class, which was one of the top classes in the country at the time, is a complete loss. Bad classes happen (just look at UK and Duke this year), but it couldn't be worse timing for Archie that it happened his first year. Langford was fine, but everybody knew he wouldn't be contributing to long term success. So of the other four, Forrester and Anderson are gone, Hunter has terrible injury luck that has sapped what could have been, and Phinisee has never developed, and his problems are mostly related to confidence, not basketball knowledge or skill. What was supposed to be the foundational class to start the turnaround is a big zero. Some of that falls on Archie, but some of it is just bad luck with that class basically having the worst of all possible outcomes. The 2018 class is a stain on how we look at everything. We say that Archie doesn't develop players, but I think pretty much everybody has gotten better, except for the 2018 class. We expect that by year 4 he should have a better team, but his first class contributed nothing to the rebuild and set them back. You can't win without good guards, and Archie got zero between 2017 (where he had little choice) and 2018. Not getting to take McKinley Wright like he wanted to in 2017 was a killer too. However, It looks like he's gotten 4 solid to potentially very good guards between 2019 and 2020, so that's reason for optimism. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  30. While you may be right that the wrong hire is the end of IU basketball. But honestly, if IU basketball is over then it died 4 years ago in Creans last season. Archie hasn’t risen the program up. If a new coach comes in and it’s more of the same mediocrity or worse, seats will still be empty. The only thing to get IU basketball back is to win and win consistently. I don’t care about a name coach. I just want the right coach. Whoever that may be. If it’s Archie turning it around next year fantastic. If it’s Alford, I don’t care. Matta, fantastic. Just win baby.

  31. The two games vs Iowa ;) In a general note, great coaches are on all levels. A high school, NAIA, or JUCO coach could very well succeed at IU. The problem we have at hand now is that we've been so bad since CTC's last year that the fanbase is UPSET. Archie is constantly trending on Twitter whenever IU loses, but never win IU wins. We have the IU homers wanting Steve, we have the fantasy dreamers (like me) who demand Brad Stevens, hell we even have fans asking for Sampson to come back. If we hire a no name, I think we're losing the fan base even more. There will be casual fans that say "anyone" is better than Archie. However, if IU is indeed still a "great" job then we should have no problem making a big hire. I'm on the other end of things saying IU isn't that great of a job and I find it hard to believe we'll find the right guy. A no name who doesn't do as great as Archie may very well be the end of IU basketball. That worries me. Scott Dolson will have the longest two years of his life, 2020 - 2022, with the amount of pressure on the IU basketball program. His career will unfortunately be decided based off this hire alone. A little unfair on his end but it's the truth. As Mike Davis once said I believe "Help is on the way" but is it?

  32. Recruiting ranking really should not be this bad since we were supposed to be a fairly decent team this year. He should be racking up recruits like Crean did for that stretch with Cody then Yogi the the movement then Blackman and Lyes. We hit that stride while we were on the upswing and things looked great. Then.... Archie got Romeo and TJD and a bunch of 4 stars. Still not bad if he could build a Nova or Virginia like program. The author does a great job pointing out though that player development is an exception not the norm. He has 4 years to show he can recruit, develop players and coach. If we are being honest he has not performed well in any of these areas. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile app

  34. He hasn't had a single season with a winning conference record, that's painful to read. He's right that this team isn't loaded with talent, but there's enough to not be this embarrassing.

  35. Archie's problem is Archie. He won't adapt. Thus he'll continue to be a mid-major coach. And that is what he brought IU.

  36. In all honesty, that's why it may be more financially expedient to pay the buyout now. As much as the admins have botched the program, they truly do know your scenario is a viable option that they'd prefer to avoid.

  37. No new insight here, but he makes the case concisely and , in my opinion, irrefutably. Unless something pretty staggering happens over the next month, there really is no non-financial argument for moving forward with Miller.

  38. Or - all this happens & Leal/Galloway/Lander become excellent guards and we compete. Some forget that Archie turned Dayton into a regular competitor - it's not like he took over a power house. Dragging IU out of the gutter is a far bigger problem than many of us may realize. I'm not saying Archie is the guy to do it, but when you have negative production at the guard position from upperclassmen, it's hard to win. And...Archie can't "make" some kids get better. Some of these young men have hit their ceilings quickly, and they're not very high. I realize I'll probably be lit up for this post as Archie-optimism isn't a popular topic, but he still has a couple of very clear inconsistencies resulting in problems (losses) on this roster. Race, TJD and AF have developed quite nicely. I think we'll see the same out of Leal and Galloway. And Geronimo. I love IU and I have to find some layer of optimism or just give up. I'm not willing to give up.

  39. Not defending Archie here, but this is a classless publication by the Star and Doyle salivates and hating on IU and creating a Boiler love fest. It's his MO. All press is good press from the perspective of the Indy Star. They're the media version of Dan Dakich...who got LIT UP by TJD's brother on Twitter this morning for his childish jabbing at college kids.

  40. Prediction: IU misses the tournament - completely loses the remainder of the fanbase, recruiting stalls further, yet he lives on to coach next year. We go into year 5 unranked with no excitement for the new season. next year we see a ton of the same, but are an 11 seed and make the tourney, lose first game, fanbase screams for a change and he is extended more years as you can’t fire a coach that made the tourney and we all die a little inside and turn into nebraskaball

  42. It's all about the Benjamin's. I don't think they will pay it this year because of covid. Yes I know it can be paid over years. That 6.5 million they will be saving by waiting until next year, can help the Athletic Department in other areas. I'm not arguing they should wait. I want him gone. I just believe that could be their thought process. I hope I'm proven wrong. Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk

  45. We could go on all day with this but it really wasn’t the horribly constructed roster that you state it to be, no worse than the rosters Archie has put together. It was constructed to play faster and none of them had played a pack like defense. The fact that Archie tried to implement a new offense and new defense, one that takes 3 years to learn was why we got our **** pushed in. That roster was more than capable of making the tourney. he pushed his style and pace on a roster that he shouldn’t have. No way in hell does that team lose game one by 21 to Indiana state without him messing up their flow

  46. We’ve been in what, 5 OT’s correct? We’re not very skilled and sure we can blame Archie for that (recruiting). But despite our skill, I’m still impressed we can even win in this league with basically 3 basketball players. TJD, Race, and Frank. I mean with our shooting woes, free throws, upperclassmen guards not showing up, Archie being the “worst” coach in the league, it seems impossible we’d even win three games this year. So there is a positive, we’ve won basketball games! EDIT: Thoughts on my new profile picture?

  47. The situation is getting depressing and I don't see a lot of good and realistic options to get the program on an upward trajectory right now. I looked back to my top 5 list in this thread from just January 15th and I don't know if any of those guys are viable at this point. Oats just got a big extension with a big buyout, Collins is on a big losing streak for the second year in a row, not sure if Woodson makes sense, who knows how long Donovan will be with the Bulls, and Beilein would be 69 assuming we wait until after Archie's buyout drops. I love the idea of Matta provided he is healthy and willing to do the Big Ten coaching grind again. At minimum it sounds like he has turned down opportunities with Georgia and Wichita St but I think he would give a lot of consideration if IU called. That's the only option giving me hope at this point.

  48. What a shame that an IU coach is in the conversation with these. And while I do agree that Turgeon underperforms, he has a 1st place Big Ten finish, two 2nds and a 3rd. Archie has nothing positive on his resume.
    2 points
  49. Can’t defend those first two and totally agree they shouldn’t be given as much time when playing like that but Leal turned the ball over immediately when he was in and almost turned it over a second time on the following possession. Had to wipe his hands off on his jersey after the second near oopsy. I’ve stopped trying to understand the method to the madness of our sub patterns but I assume that played a part

  50. Yeah but I’m sure there hasn’t been a drop in basketball IQ. Sometimes a change of perspective with some time on the outside of a situation allows someone to assess things differently and make changes for the better. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
