Portal QB rankings should be - (1) Hoover, (2) Alberto, and then (3) Sorsby. Definitely an impulse buy after that disastrous offensive performance vs Oregon. Sorsby is going to lose them a few games with mistakes go iu bb 1 Quote

Yes -I agree with you. But Alberto ranked higher? Alberto Mendoza has not played during ANY meaningful game time (except for one handoff against OSU). Cignetti could have retained Alberto at a much lower price than we chose to spend for Hoover. Finally, if his name was "Alberto Jones" and he had the exact same resume as Alberto Mendoza; the seldom used backup on another team with fantastic quarterback development would you think the same? There's a ready-made comparable: Ohio State qb Lincoln Kienholz made a push for the starting job this past season before losing out Sayin. He threw for 139 yards and a touchdown and ran for 66 yards and two scores as the backup. The Buckeyes used Kienholz as a runner in short-yardage situations. Quote

Pagoda Posted February 3 Posted February 3 I dunno, I can see why TTU went for Sorsby. There weren’t many high end QBs in the portal and if they didn’t get him their next best option could have been quite a bit worse. Maybe they paid $1M or so over market for him… hard to know. But what’s an extra $1M to Cody Campbell and their $40M roster? May as well go for it. Quote
Lebowski Posted February 3 Posted February 3 TTU signed Sorsby because he doesn't throw picks, can run the ball, and has four solid years of experience in P4 competition. And who knows what kind of QB he could have been had he not transferred out of IUFB. He made that 2023 squad so much better than they actually were. His last five games that season were solid and kept us in those games. Had he been named the starter all year long I have no doubt that squad wins more than 3 games and they don't need 4 OTs to beat Akron. Quote

Agreed, and most colleges start the third week of August anyway. If conference championships even continue, those should be on Thanksgiving weekend. southsidehoosier 1 Quote

Agreed, I am already sick of the " who is the next Indiana" clickbait headlines. I understand it's refreshing to have new schools in the NC converstion. Still, it's dumb to pretend that IU winning somehow opened the door for every down-trodden program to emerge. It was a pretty specific set of circumstances and people that brought results. Getting a new coach at a crap school ain't it. rayl456 and Pagoda 2 Quote
