It's pretty crazy how many head coach openings there are now and how many are probably coming:

Current:
- PSU
- Va Tech
- UCLA
- Arkansas
- Okie St.
Soon:
- UNC
Chance of a change in next year or two:
- Florida
- Florida St.
- Wisconsin
- Auburn
- Michigan State
- South Carolina

I probably missed a few.  One that could be coming and it's a top-5 or so mega-job is Michigan.  Sherrone is stumbling a bit and his buyout isn't much for UM.  If he has a bad rest of this year, I could see UM losing faith in him.

Anyways, I don't have anything else to say except it's quite the list.

I think a lot of it has to do with schools needing to start doing background on hires earlier so they can get things done as soon as their seasons are over so coaches can hit the ground running when the portal opens.

IMO, Matt Campbell would be the home run hire they are looking for. PSU definitely an upgrade in every way over ISU. He was born and raised in Ohio, so knows the area.

As is the case with most things in life, would have to have the wife on board for this to happen.

I think Rhule to Penn State and Campbell to Nebraska is more likely tbh

I think Campbell would be an excellent hire and maybe that’s sort of where they end up. But I don’t imagine they spent almost 50 mil to go get the guy from Iowa St. They’ll be taking some big swings 1st. Side note: how funny is it that a guy who’ll be 65 before he coaches a game in the ‘26 season and has coached 19 games at the high major level would be considered maybe the biggest swing of all? And yet, of course he is. What a time this is.

Freaking knew it. Eli Drinkwitz now coming up in connection with Penn St. His agent is The Man. Got Drink’s name attached to LSU and got him a big extension when there was no chance he was a candidate there. He’s about to do it again. He’s also Marcus Freeman’s agent, so don’t be surprised when you start hearing about how Freeman is “open to Penn St overtures.”

Good work.

On cue, Penn State fans on another board I frequent are already passing along information from a Penn State mod that says they have a "better shot than we thought" at Freeman.

I think the only reason for Domers to start worrying is if Ohio State opens up. I have zero reason to believe that Penn State is a better job than ND right now and from the outside, it appears that Freeman has completely bought in to everything that comes with being the ND football coach.

We are really pushing the this largest alumni base thing.

It’s great, but if I am honest, I am pretty sure most large state schools have somewhat similar sized alumni bases.

I don’t know how they pull the data, but last time I looked into this there actually is a sizable gap from IU/PSU to the 3rd spot. It was something like 100,000 more people. I think Michigan was 3rd.

Hmm.  Our Bloomington campus enrollment has been #10-20 for a very long time.  I wonder if we count satellite campuses or something.  I don’t get how it’s true.

But, I’ll drop this topic, no one wants to see my posts disputing a stat that has IU #1 lol.

Satellites are included. It's 100% a mickey mouse stat.

Appears I kicked the hornet's nest. It was not my intent to diminish anyone's alumni status and I agree that an IU degree is an IU degree.
