You have a dude like Travis that literally can't be on the field on the sidelines trying to help. Dudes on the field getting beat down and all those other cowards are just crying in their own pity because their feelings are hurt. Get the hell over yourself, it's a damned team. It's supposed to be a family. Man the hell up, show some pride and play the game. Bunch of damned quitters. Throughout the sport. It's embarrassing. thebigweave, rcbowla and KingPG21 3 Quote

Unfortunately I think they’re still quite strong — don’t have it handy but someone compared the IU/KU bball game to a concurrent bowl and the football numbers were quite a bit higher. If I recall it wasn’t huge brands or anything, either, just like a meaningless bowl game. Quote

This is basically an unintended consequence from NIL in my opinion. Without question NIL has added a ton of fuel to the “not playing in a bowl” fire. It used to be a few first rounders that wanted to avoid getting hurt but now you have a lot of guys that have entered the portal, who will never sniff the NFL, but don’t want to blow a potential 100k etc NIL deal at their future school. Hard to believe but it was the recent 2017 bowl season when future top 10 picks McCAffrey and Fournette “scandalously” skipped their bowl games and some thought they might drop in the draft for deserting their teams etc. Mind blowing how it’s gone from a couple of guys to FSU alone having 20 guys bail today. Going forward how many alumni (unless it’s a bowl starved school like IU) will fly to a bowl game, and pay for air/hotel/car/food/booze/tickets, to watch their second string play another teams back-ups. I’m sure there are some pissed FSU alums tonight. The ratings will be interesting to see this year as TV is the only thing that could possibly keep this many bowls (there are way too many in my opinion) going. Naturalhoosier and Lebowski 2 Quote
Lebowski Posted December 31, 2023 Posted December 31, 2023 I'm confident big change in CFB is coming. I don't know when or how but multiple tipping points have been hit and powerful people seemed to be aligned. Quote

That's sadly why we likely won't get a college basketball video game again, even though football is making a return in July. Can't wait for that! rcbowla 1 Quote

Agreed, and it pains me to realize we won't be immune from opt outs whenever we reach a bowl game again. I do think Cig will get us there, but I'd be willing to bet whoever our best player(s) is will sit out of the bowl game to "prepare for the NFL draft". Something has to get fixed, and soon. Quote

LamarCheeks Posted January 1, 2024 Posted January 1, 2024 I guess I'm more bitter and grumpy than most. Maybe a New Year's resolution would be to try to repair those. LOL! But I got annoyed at seeing Caleb Williams yukking it up on the Southern Cal sideline during the Holiday Bowl and Jayden Daniels on the LSU sideline and getting an in-game interview during the ReliaQuest Bowl. After Bill Frieder took the Arizona State job before the NCAA tourney, Bo Schembechler told him to get lost. He said: "I want Michigan to be coached by a Michigan man. Not an Arizona State man." If I were the coaches of those two teams, I'd have said: "I want kids who want to play on this team. You don't want to play in the bowl? That's fine. Then you need to GTFO!" Loaded Chicken Sandwich Posted January 1, 2024 Posted January 1, 2024 Has it been the norm to consider yourself "champs" after winning a random bowl and not the championship? Is that something that just started? Like Minnesota is now the Quick Lane Bowl Champs? WTF is that? LSU now the Reliaquest Bowl Champs? WTF IS THAT! Quote

I once saw a Purdue fan wearing a shirt that said "Foster Farms Bowl Champs" and saw them on sale at Walmart. I'm not kidding. Loaded Chicken Sandwich 1 Quote

Players not wanting to play but still getting to be there doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me either. If I had players not wanting to play, I'd say fine, but you're staying home. Of course, coaches today are probably scared to death that if they tried doing that, the players would get on social media and whine about how mean their coach is and steer potential recruits away from the program, so they let them do what they want.
