If a poster is sharing an opinion as if it was fact, then yes i think people have every right to get irritated by it. It is misleading.

It isn't that hard to present an opinion as just that, an opinion.

Then don’t take everything on a free public fan forum as gospel. Everyone on here spews their opinions, some positive, some negative, and people discuss. Obviously none of us are directly tied to any of these recruits and these recruits are not going to call us up and say hey Hoosier Guy I’m going to IU if you want to tell the BTB guys. Sometimes people have legit info on here and they make it known in their post that what they are posting may be legit or may be gossip. But I wouldn’t recommend taking anything on any kind public forum for 100% fact. Hoosier Guy is very optimistic and gives his personal reasons why, nothing wrong with that.

Note, this was compiled in 2014.  The program has continued to have scandals.  I understand you separate the program from the individual players some, but at some point quantity has a quality all its own.

I wasn't expecting to come on here this morning and see all this hate. I thought we all knew that Hoosier Guy is optimistic and when he says these things that it's his opinion. I'd much rather someone post like he does than bring doom and gloom every day. He's not hurting anything.

That was my point. Not hating on the guy. Just that if you were someone newer, reading the posts for the first time, it certainly could come across as much more than an opinion as most posts did not point out it was just that.

No need to get snotty about it. As I said, other people seem to enjoy it so I have kept quiet before now. As more people come back to the boards with the season ramping up, more people are getting confused by the misleading shtick.

2. Other people are being whiny about something completely inconsequential on a free message board.

4. This recruiting thread has been derailed by people being confused and whining about the relevant (though not necessarily factual) posts on this free message board thread.

Nothing against positive thinking but speaking as if you know something when you don't is a little misleading.  That's how rumors get started and things are misinterpreted by others.  How many times have we read that someone on another board says this or that and if it's good news we run with it and if it's not we defend it? I'm not bashing just don't like the absolute talk unless a source is feeding them. However,  with the good vibes around Hoosier Hysteria, I don't see how we could miss out on both.

So if a kid gets annoyed with an adult telling everyone what that kid is definitively going to do over and over when the kid himself hasn't made up his mind it is the kid that is not ready for big time basketball?

I don't understand that rationale

Ah crap.  Now I'm weighing in on this, too.

 

I've long been on record as saying Hoosier Guy is one of my favorite posters, once you understand his communication style.  He brings flavor.  "Hoosier Guy's source" is a great joke to all the other "sources" that we analyze. 

I will also say, sometimes the volume of posts gets excessive, basically spamming the forum.  A daily affirmation of faith, maybe two, from Hoosier Guy would get the point across.

That said, some of you that don't appreciate his contributions are also some of my favorites.  ElectricBoogaloo has been hilarious at times; seems like a dude I'd hang out with.  Brass Cannon is awesome.  Others I'm sure I'm missing.

This forum is awesome.  Very little in-fighting.  Great information.  Excellent mods.  Fun banter.  Let's maintain it.  Maybe politely inform new people questioning Hoosier Guy's source, let them in on the joke.  Hoosier Guy, maybe cut down on the volume that rubs people wrong (but never change!).

Glad someone mentioned this before this gets out of hand. I get where some are coming from, but no need to take shots at Hoosier Guy for believing in our program. If new posters take it the wrong way then A. They didn't read more than one or two pages in the thread, so I wouldn't say they're very invested in the site so who cares. B. It isn't illegal on here to ask a question or send a pm to confirm. 

If the mods have no issue with it when it's their site, then no one else should. Plenty other IU forums and sites to go to. Sorry, reading some of these comments really annoyed me. Meant this post with nothing but respect lol. Carry on with your days.

If you really think a kid is going to go on a forum and get upset by that you are gonna hurt your back from reaching too far. Lighten up and get back to talkin about stuff that actually matters.
