(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS

Recommended Posts

It’s Garland. That is the deciding factor. Thank God we won’t have to deal with him again. Romeo is the last highly coveted Indiana recruit Vandy will have a chance to get.
If he goes to vandy clearly it is. Drew gets none of these guys without garland. Still amazing a recruit could steer two other top ten guys to the same school. Even two man packages rarely happen let alone a three man ones. He must be a hell of a salesman.

My son and I were talking this weekend about being from Indiana and how much the Hoosiers mean to us.  We just couldn't fathom going anywhere else If given that opportunity.  Literally I could care less about going somewhere sunny, playing with other 5 stars, playing with friends, hell even getting paid!  Being from Indiana, having the opportunity to play for IU....its just a given.  I know everyone values something different but if ur from Indiana and basketball is your thing,  there is no other University.  I've never claimed to be smart by any means but I'll never understand how u pass that opportunity up being from Indiana.

Unfortunately this isn’t the 70s 80s or even the 90s. There just aren’t enough Indiana folks that feel this way anymore. You can thank a whole host of dip shoulds for that

The allure of Indiana Basketball isn’t what it used to be. The relevancy of the Hoosiers isn’t where it once was either. Let’s face it, IU hoops is very important to a large group of die hard fans from around the country, but the state of Indiana no longer lives and breathes IU basketball. Especially with the emergence of Butler and Notre Dame, and the resurgence of Purdue. No high schoolers were even alive the last time Indiana won a championship. Really, at this point, most weren’t even alive when IU last made a final 4. It’s an unfortunate but true scenario. If Indiana is going to make it back to the glory years, it going to have to be done with great coaching and hard work. Not the best recruiting classes..

He could play for a coach who knows how to minimize his disadvantages, created an effective blueprint to slow down an archrival that still hasn't been countered 8 games later, and has the foresight to acknowledge what could cause burnout among his older players.

Or he could play for a coach who says "Let's make passes" and "Let's not get our shots blocked."

This shouldn't be that difficult, should it?

This is where I'm at.  Looking through my crimson-colored glasses, IU should be the choice from a basketball perspective and Vandy for a let's have a fun time with my friend stand point.  While it seems like a no-brainer, we're still talking about a teenager.

Frankly, I pin a lot of my optimism on Tim Langford's ability to deduct what is best for his son - it seems he really likes IU.

Indiana has to regain credibility with the younger generation of fans. Most kids now weren't alive when Indiana was great. All they know are old stories. Living in New Albany it's a harder sell with UofL and UK around. I get the feeling Romeo never grew up rooting for or caring about IU. That doesn't mean he isn't interested. I'm getting the feeling his family and his coaches want IU. He wants Vanderbilt but has been waivering some. It will really come down to whether his family and coaches will have enough sway. Also Indiana has to have one last meeting. I think that is really important.

But they've got Dads and even Mom's who lived and breathed IU bball and you'd think that would transfer down a little.

I get the points made in the article, but I still think he said all the things he was supposed to say while he was visiting their school.

Either way, we all know he is a one year player. I'd love for him to be a Hoosier, but as for long-term plans, I don't see it as make or break for the program.

Personally, I don't see how Vandy is a better situation than IU for that one year, but I'm not the one making the decision or listening to all the noise around it.
