(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS

Recommended Posts

Latest blog from Romeo.

What’s going on world? I’m back again and this is my third blog for USA TODAY Sports, just checking back in with you guys from Egypt real quick.

Well, I’m back to playing now so I’m happy about that.

I got back on the court Wednesday and played a couple of minutes just to get my feet wet out there and it felt really good.

My first bucket was a dunk. Any time you dunk the ball it feels pretty good, but it was an even better feeling since it was my first points coming off of a back injury.

I felt like I could’ve played more minutes in that game, but they didn’t want to put too much on me in my first game back and I understood that.

Coach Calipari said he’d been waiting for me to play like that for a while.

I would say that my back is at about 75 percent right now.

I’m doing a lot of stretching, heating and doing different muscle stimulants. I’m doing everything that I can to get back to 100 percent.

My teammates have been really supportive just telling me not to worry about it and take my time and come back when I’m healthy.

I’m excited because we start the quarterfinals against Germany on Friday!

We’re all feeling pretty confident because we’ve been playing well.

We just have to be patient, move the ball and get out in transition because that’s when we’re at our best.

The gold medal game will be Sunday so wish us luck because our goal is to bring home the gold for our country!

Final blog from Romeo.   The italicized opening paragraph is USA Today's lead-in to Romeo's post.  Kind of wonder if the kid doesn't need some time away from the court for his back.

Langford did not play Saturday in Team USA’s semifinal loss to Canada and then had eight points in Sunday’s 96-72 bronze medal victory against Spain. Langford, who has struggled with back problems throughout the tournament, played just three minutes.

As I was in the game. It didn’t hurt when I went in. As I kept on playing, I started feeling the pain. I’ll probably be home for two days and then I’m heading to South Carolina for the adidas Gauntlet finals. Right now, my plan is to get home and get some treatment and I’ll see what happens then.

I’ll bring back memories of just everything — working out with the guys, traveling, being coached by Coach Calipari and all of that. Playing for Team USA is something I wouldn’t mind doing again.

People from Egypt and wherever they are from came to our games and they were cheering for us even though they don’t know who we are. They just like the game and knowing that people from Egypt watched us play basketball was kinda cool.

I really don’t like watching and knowing that I could play. This was ours to win. It is hard knowing that we should have won and brought home the gold medal. It’s over and we’ve just got to go home and come back for the next one.

Picked up a Crystal Ball to IU late last night.

Also, an update with Brian Snow:

For Romeo Langford it has been extremely busy summer filled with new experiences. Not only has he traveled as a part of the adidas Gauntlet with Twenty-Two Vision, but also he has had a pair of global experiences. Langford was first in Europe before going to Egypt as a part of USA Basketball.

About the trip to Egypt, Langford said, "It was different, but it was fun. It was good to be overseas, and they spoke more English there, then when I was in Europe for the Adidas trip. We were always surrounded by security guards and things like that so it was a unique experience."

Five-star guard Romeo Langford emerged in a big way as a sophomore, and since then he has done nothing to slow down. He has good size at around 6-foot-4, and is a tremendous athlete. Also he is a good jump shooter who is capable of getting to the rim. A quiet kid by nature, Langford could be more assertive on the court, but that is nitpicking his game. Langford has a tremendous track record of production, led his high school team to a state title, and he also still has big time upside with room to improve.

While the USA team was upset by Canada and didn't come home with gold, Langford said it was a great learning experience.

"It was real good," said Langford of the trip. "I got to play with a great group of guys. Playing against guys who were already in college and going against them in practice as well was great."

With offers from schools such as Duke, North Carolina, Kentucky, Kansas, Louisville, Vanderbilt, Indiana, and others, Langford is at the center of a big time recruiting battle. One of the unique things about the trip to Egypt was Langford had a chanced to be coached by Kentucky boss John Calipari.

About the experience of getting to know Calipari and his coaching style, Langford said, "It was real good to get to know a coach like that. To be able to see what it would like to play for him and how I would relate to a coach before ever getting to college was good."

When it comes to his recruitment, Langford is in no hurry to make any choice. Currently his dad handles most of the recruiting calls from coaches, and Langford would like to make several more visits before getting too serious about making a decision.

"I will cut my list down to about seven after AAU season and make some unofficial visits before I go on my official visits after that," noted Langford.

Look for Langford to have an extended recruiting process as things stand now, and for many visits to happen before a decision is made.

I honestly believe we get this kid. I am very optimistic probably more than more. I think Archie isn't just trying to be the hot name and get a bunch of kids to come in. LSU is the only school with a new coach that has a 5 star without hiring their dad. NC State has done well, but back to the point. Archie wants to pick the right kids. Mizzou, NC State & a few other schools have landed multiple kids after April this year. Plenty of time.

Langford will try to bring Garland but I see him going to Duke with his 80 different packages combos lol. He wants to play w other guys and that is fine.

Thompson is the first to pop and I expect a in state kid as well by September. I think Romeo is ours by December.

Nothing new in this report! This is the same reports and pieces rehashed by someone taking his info from all of the previous stories. It makes sense that a decision could be made by the start of his senior season just to put it to bed so he can concentrate on trying to win another state championship. New Albany will once again be one of the favorites and Romeo would love nothing more than cementing his name as one of the all time Indiana HS greats. But, he is perfectly happy with his father handling all of the recruiting business while he does what he loves and that is practicing with his teammates and winning games. So, I don't think that it would effect him one bit to hold out until spring for a decision. I think that would loom better for us, giving Archie more time to get in his favor. Contrary to the pundits outside the state of Indiana, IU is the main player here. I believe his parents would favor this. The education, family, and culture.

That is fine w me. The longer he waits the longer Archie has to recruit him. I just have a gut feeling. We have been losing guys already and guys like Carey who we were all over a month or so ago, now doesn't even mention us, it gives me a feeling Archie knows he will be in the big recruitments till the end. Romeo & Garland are the ones I mean. Dort could decide soon.

I don't have any sources or anything lol like I said just a gut feeling. The Garland quote of wanting to play with him got me more excited, but Duke is also an option with both so I believe it is us or Duke for both. Tre Jones will be a Duke kid and I think Garland saying the right things means the opposite. Neither wanna play off ball and hurt their stocks w NBA guys specially when they only have a year to do so.

Kinda why I think he pops before Spring. He is a good kid and I believe he wants this to be over. He has had the same silent leaders for awhile. UK may have snuck in but he has known as we all have it is Duke, IU, U of L and maybe UK. No need to prolong it.

I think besides a PG, this years class for UK will all be very late adds. With multiple guys at most positions, some kids will stay. I believe they have only 3 guys in the 1st in most mock drafts. PJ, Diallo & Knox or Vanderbilt can't remember.

Apparently Duke has not been in contact with Romeo, per another board quoting Romeo himself.  And UK is likely out per the mods of another UK site.

Looking like an IU-UL battle here.  Please, oh please....

Everything I've seen says it's Louisville vs IU for Romeo. I'll take my chances

People love to talk down here. The more I hear the more likely I feel he ends up at IU. What the family and Romeo seem to want is what IU can provide and the likes of UL, Duke, and puke cannot. We'll see how it turns out.

I think a lot depends on our guys proving they can be an adequate supporting staff for Romeo to shine

I think an above average PG would be enough with the frontcourt we should have.

Davis, Thompson
Morgan, Moore
Smith

That's 4 top 100 front court players and 2 upperclassmen top 100 recruits. That's talent, experience, and good teammates. I don't think that's lost on Romeo.

Don't be suprised if UofL beats us out. Pitino is scum but he's a Hall of Famer and Kenny Johnson can flat out recruit.

Screw Kenny Johnson! Ed Schilling is going to take care of this for Archie. He doesn't have to knock on doors in our state...he has the keys! He has the ear and respect of Shannon and if Coach Shannon believes that IU is the right choice for Romeo, then if asked he would surely let the Langfords know his opinions. Mutual repect between the two parties.

I believe that you will see thst they ate slong with a few recruiting pieces that we pick up. I like that Thompson is red shirting next season to get that yr of bulking up and practice experience against college players. I think that is a great move by the staff and helps to show the Langfords that we want to make sure that that we are going to do whatever it takes to put our program on a track to be successful.
