Popular Post Stuhoo Posted October 13, 2015 Popular Post Posted October 13, 2015 Howland has two final fours, two Big East championships, and three Pac 12 championships under his belt. Also has a very long list of successful NBA players whom he coached in college. He is a "players coach" to the extent that the inmates sometimes run the asylum, but he has a really good track record, and has a big time five star (Newman) coming in this year. Wouldn't be surprised if Kegler, being the local kid, ends up there, and from there he can sell a chance to win at Miss St. Howland is also an extremely, ahem..."effective" recruiter, and has ties to AAU/handlers. Losing high-level players to Miss St? Normally not okay. Losing high-level players to Howland at Miss St? Gonna happen to more than just IU. IUsafety, Hovadipo, Happydaze and 5 others 8 Quote

I'll bet the pitch is very "be part of the class that starts it all" too. If these players took Miss St to an Elite Eight or Final Four they would be worshiped there until the end of time*. His incoming class is actually already pretty sick, way better than ours. A couple four stars, a five, and a three star, tons of immediate playing time, a forgiving fan base, easy conference. On the other hand, it's Mississippi State. *Though, they're still an SEC school, so they may get confused trying to praise basketball players MikeRoberts 1 Quote

Not to nit pick, but actually 3 consecutive final fours - Losing to Florida twice and Memphis during K. Love's freshman year. Stuhoo 1 Quote

Gross that was in Indianapolis that year too. I guess the proper way to write it is "a National runner-up followed by two Final Fours... and then a whole lot of disappointment" WayneFleekHoosier 1 Quote

I guess the proper way to write it is "a National runner-up followed by two Final Fours... and then a whole lot of disappointment" True. It just surprises me that UCLA has fired their last 2 coaches - Lavin for going to 6 straight Sweet 16's and then Howland - as you said, a lot of disappointment after 3 straight FF's. They did, however, have to settle for Alford and his enormous ego. We have 1 Conference Championship and back-to-back Sweet 16's going into year 8, or year 5 if you refuse to count the first 3. Our administration just doesn't get it and I doubt they (UCLA admin) would be bringing CTC back for this year if he had done at UCLA what he is doing here. Alford Bailey and WayneFleekHoosier 2 Quote
Kepner Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 Also have to take into account that Howland was in the middle of a huge scandal at UCLA as well. He had no control over his team off the court and really didn't care about it. Kind of like Sampson 2.0 Quote

WayneFleekHoosier Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 Almost has a Miles bridges feel here. Narrowed list after visit. I am more confident here but IDK. I am selfish but I want Kegler and Davis. Class of '66 Old Fart, BGleas, Bobman1 and 1 other 4 Quote
Iufan2324 Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 We are looking good I feel. Hasn't visited miss state so he knew he liked us and howland but likes us enough to keep us top two. He'll visit there and see it's not a basketball school. Commits to IU by the end of November. My prediction Hutch89, ALASKA HOOSIER, Hoosierboy1980 and 2 others 5 Quote
Popular Post BGleas Posted October 20, 2015 Popular Post Posted October 20, 2015 Agree! There's a lot to happen still, but I would be ecstatic over a Kegler, Davis, Brown, CuJo, Gelon class. I doubt we'll get them all, but find a way to lock that class up in the Fall, and then based on NBA entrants and transfers, let the chips fall where they may in the Spring with Alkins/Maker.What I like about the initial group of Kegler, Davis, Brown, CuJo and Gelon is that outside of Gelon they're all high 4*'s. While I'd love the stud top 10-20 recruits, I think you can build a very successful program, and probably a more stable/consistent one, with guys like Watford, Yogi, Troy, Bryant, Morgan, Kegler, Davis, Brown, etc. 4 * guys that are likely to stay 2-4 years. That's your foundation, then the McDonald's guys are gravy as opposed to required.Almost has a Miles bridges feel here. Narrowed list after visit. I am more confident here but IDK. Iufan2324 Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 Just had a buddy send me a pic from a dude posting on peegs saying Davis will commit to iu in the next 2 days and will cancel his visit and attend Hoosier hysteria. I would post the pic but I can't find how on mobile version. Don't know if this is the true but this is the rumor only thing he is waiting for to commit is to talk it over with his family and coaches WayneFleekHoosier and IUsafety 2 Quote
