(2016) PF De'Ron Davis to IU

Recommended Posts

Arizona being on that list scares me.

Closer to home and would be playing for a coach and team that likely wont be drowning in turmoil. I worry about the recruits watching us next year. The fanbase is expecting quite a bit out of this team (rightfully so) but we haven't quite cooled on our stance with our coach. The second that this team starts to take on the characteristics of a Tom Crean team, the fans will let him have it and if we thought the end of the season was ugly for Coach last year, then just wait until this team starts to fall short of our expectations. I feel bad for the kids bc I think the fans see this as a final four or bust year. That's asking a lot out of this group IMO.

Edit: I'd like to add that if this team has early success, we could see a major recruiting momentum. Something tells me that Thomas Bryant will attract some studs to come play with him, especially if he's having fun. Bryant, Holt, and Davis would make for one physical frontcourt.

Let's keep this on track about De'Ron, not Crean or fan's expecations

I felt that was related to De'Ron, frankly I think its a stretch to say its not.  De'ron is directly linked to our recruiting success this year.  Without him, its unlikely we even have a decent class.  Let alone one that is well rounded.  Losing out on him will be a critical blow for this program on and off the court.

We need Bryant to have early success. It's a good selling point to a kid like Davis.

Even with early success from Bryant, Holt could be the key. If Holt gets increase time and is successful how likely is it we land Davis? We have yet to see a Crean team at IU feature two bigs. My fear is we lose Davis to Zona because there system is better suited for two bigs on the court at the same time.

If De'ron's thought process for choosing a school is based primarily on a school falling short of expectations he might as well just go ahead and choose UT then because surely watching UA continuously fall on it's face after being hyped as a championship contender every year must also be a turnoff.

I suspect his decision making process is a bit more sophisticated or at least a bit more involved than that. Personally, I like IU's position here and think UT is a bigger threat than UA.

ESPN 100 forward Javin Montgomery-Delaurier added an offer from Arizona. Played for Team Loaded on the circuit. Stock continues to rise.
