UM Graduate Transfer Max Bielfeldt To IU

Recommended Posts

All of the folks on here who wouldn't like this probably didn't like the NZ addition either..and they were all wrong. Be happy if he wants to come here and I'm sure he can certainly add something to the mix up front. We need the depth and can still use the scholly next year

Yep. People have to remember, an 18 year old Walt Bellamy isn't walking through the doors of the Hall this summer.

I know it won't happen because this staff thinks it's illegal to go into the season with less than 13 scholarship players, but I'd prefer we bank at least one of them.

Getting Max would be better than banking a scholarship this year since IU would get the benefit of having a backup player and another open scholarship for 16'.Banking 2 scholarships makes absolutely no sense when IU will already have 3 open for 16' and possibly 5 or more.

Just watched a couple videos of his highlights and he looks to be a major downgrade from hanner. Hanner was better than max during his freshman year than what max is now. He would probably get less than 10 minutes playing time a game

That's pretty much how I feel too.  We don't need to have a total stud in the frontcourt, just somebody to give us minutes and that we can depend on.

Does he fit Indiana's system? Does he make Indiana a better team? Or...like so many other kids some fans get excited about... Would he simply be another warm body with a pulse who said "yes?"

it doesn't really matter. He's by all accounts a great kid on and off the court that could provide some sorely lacking leadership. He won't be a stud by any means, but he would provide some depth in the post. Scholly is a moot point as well (which I know you didn't talk about in your post, but felt it was important to add). I dont know why anyone would have a problem with this

Interesting development and I could get behind this recruitment. A big body to help up front and another good team leader like Zeisloft. He won the spirit award at UM and helped develop UM's young bigs. Had several double figure games---9 boards against Michigan State and Nebraska in back to back games.  I think he's about 6'8" and 220+ and already has a degree in Kinesiology. He was hampered by injuries early in his UM career and had surgery---hip/labrum before last season and his production last season was much better and he considers himself healthy again.  He's from Peoria, Illinois. He could hold his own at the 4 or if Bryant got in foul trouble.

It is obvious we could use an infusion of basic leader skills on and off the court.. now.  If he can provide that alone I say welcome him to the Hoosiers.
