Brad Stevens tidbit...

Old Friend's comments are not something to dismiss. I hope we all take it to heart. The possibility of IU getting this right -- even in a couple of years is worth the wait.

Indeed it is.  God, I hate watching Tom Crean's teams play basketball and I hate even more the results which have occurred.  Nobody's getting any younger, but I heard a really good comparison today.  Indiana has always and should always hold itself in at least as high a regard as Kentucky does as a blue-blood, bellweather program.  Tubby Smith was hired at Kentucky following Rick Pitino, and in 10 seasons, he won 5 SEC titles, a national title, went to six Elite 8's, and never missed the tournament.  At the end of that 10 years, the decision of a mutual parting of ways was made.  Why?   Because that's not good enough at Kentucky.

What Crean has done at Indiana doesn't even come close to matching those accomplishments, and if a coach here would do that, I think we'd give him a lifetime contract!   But....if that wasn't good enough for Kentucky, and Indiana holds itself to the same regard and similar standards; what Crean's done and doing here are absolutely not good enough, and it doesn't matter what happens next season.   Part of what gives me some peace about this whole thing is I believe the trustees and also Mr. Glass understand this, but the timing has to work.  Hiring, say, Shaka Smart would have been a nightmare scenario.  Let's say we give a guy like that (someone not exactly who we want, just someone.....different) a 7 year deal and Stevens is available in 1 or 2.  Now we've lost our guy, settled for someone less, and "our guy" is probably coaching at Duke.   So....long reply, but I completely agree.  It's worth waiting out.

IMO some fans who have lowered their standard of IUBb is a direct reflection of Tom Crean rubbing off on the casual fan the last 7 years. As Jon Taffer would say "I embrace solutions, not excuses"

I think we have a great shot at landing Stevens this year.

So you're saying there's a chance? Interesting notes about an Indiana board member speaking with Stevens; Even if he's with the Pacers. This thing about being patient strikes me going into year 8 of this regime esp when considering what Tubby did at UK in 10. Then they run off the next coach only after a couple years. I would love to have Stevens as much as anyone, but the right job won't be anymore right one year later. It's right when it's offered and it's taken if it's the right job. Crean isn't the right coach and one more year won't prove it or make us any closer to finding the coach to lead us moving forward. If Stevens isn't ready, another great coach will be. Indiana needs to find the right coach now.

I have never read so much nonsense. Crean is the coach. Stop trying to undermine his recruiting by spreading rumors of his departure. I.U. should have Steve Alford years ago. Crean dug us out of a big hole and he is now on my time clock. I give him three more years to produce. I love you folks that say it doesn't matter what happens next year, LOL. You are so afraid he will succeed next year. I believe he will. We have the nucleus of a great team and a team that will not lose a lot of players to the NBA.

I have zero fear Crean will succeed next season. If Crean succeeds it means IU has had a good season and that will make me extremely happy. However, that will mean absolutely nothing going into 2016-2017 where the talent will be above average but the results will be below average. There's a trend and I would rather he continue that trend somewhere else.
