Good Guy Mike Davis

Recommended Posts

If you don't like what I have to say, put me on ignore. But calling me passive aggressive isn't even close champ. You will be easy to spot at the game as you will be the only one standing during Davis' introduction. I don't like Crean much, but at least he loves Indiana and what it stands for. Davis hated it all the way to his next stepping stone to the NBA. Oh, that's right, he got fired at UAB and is finally at his destination job at Texas Southwest Presbeterion State of the Blessed. Sampson even made it back to D1. It's great Davis seems content now; much like the General in a different way.

Except it definitely sounds like other people are going to give him a standing ovation. Too bad to you nobody's opinion counts nearly as much as yours

When RMK was fired I was glad to have Davis take over as interim. After a few years I was definitely ready to let Davis go. I used to get so tired of his promises and lack of enthusiasm for IUs history and tradition.

The article by Whitlock (http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=whitlock/060216) helped fuel my dissatisfaction for Davis.

That being said, I would hate for Indiana fans to boo or show disrespect in any manner. As someone else in this thread shared, our reception of him will show more about who we are than who he is/was.

The article where Davis talked positively about Indiana was a great gesture on his part. Whether he was a good coach for us or not he has as much reason to harbor ill will towards us as we do him. He is willing to forgive and move on and we should do the same. He was an IU coach who took over during a tough time and still got us to the championship game.

Now if Sampson ever comes back, I would be disappointed if we clapped even once on accident.

Funny story, at IU I have a job calling alum and being the soliciting telemarketer everyone hates and in the system we have to record a reason why people decline to donate. Mike Davis/Sampson/knight are such common reasons they're a drop down option. The other day I called and someone kept saying he wouldn't donate until IU righted the ship with bobby knight and hired him back. True story. Hard not to laugh

Haha I did that job as well for a summer. So horrible. Whenever they call me today I try to be as nice as possible and try to make their night better. Keep up the good work kellyhoosh!

At least Davis wanted to come back to IU for a game.  I enjoyed reading the several interviews he has given about this game and he seems to understand that IU helped make his career.  He mentioned wanting to come back to IU elite camp with his son and that he hoped IU would recruit his son in basketball.  Now that's pretty classy.

I've never been a huge Mike Davis fan---but at least he is not out bashing IU or ignoring IU.  I view him much differently than I do Sampson. I think Davis tried his best in a difficult situation following Knight and did not have the experience to lead us at the time. But--he always seemed like a good guy.

He deserves respect and I hope he gets a warm welcome tomorrow night.

Looks like there will be 3 with you. Just because Davis finds pride in the program he couldn't when he led it, doesn't change the downward spiral it has become. I'm not blaming him entirely, as our presidents and ad's have been less than medicore looking for their next gig or finding the next coach by committe. He's at a place now where his talents can truly be appreciated. Didn't he win his conference last year? Maybe he can come back with his youngest as a package deal.

Maybe it's because I'm so young that I barely remember the guy, but I'm pretty indifferent towards Davis. Sure, I wouldn't boo him and I don't think anyone should, but I wouldn't go out of my way to stand up and clap for him.

Mike Davis: "Indiana was always big time basketball. Now it has big time facilities. It's the icing on the cake." #iubb

Indiana athletic trainer Tim Garl also gave Mike Davis a tour of Cook Hall this evening. Davis said he was impressed. #iubb

Mike Davis just finished with practice at Assembly Hall. It was his 1st time back since 2006. "The gym hasn't changed," he said.
