What amazes me is that Holtmann has allowed them to play that way.  That says something.

Seems like he's made the mistake that many coaches make when they jump to a higher profile program. He is going after talent instead of fit, and then just letting them play.

I've felt like he has been a little over-rated, but mostly due to his lack of success in the tournament. This year has definitely been different.

I have gone from thinking he was underrated to properly rated. I used to think the lack of tourney success was bad luck, hiding a better-than-reputation coach. Still think there’s some bad luck but his teams annually get worse from about mid-January on.

He’s also been somewhat unlucky: last year Branham was off draft radars but played his way from a 2- or 3-year college career into a 1st round draft pick, this year it’s happening with Sensabaugh. The Zed Key injury has tanked their defense…but IU’s had worse injury luck and survived it.

FWIW -- dude from a Tennessee paper (Knoxville) has us as one of the 10 teams who can win a natty ...

He isn't wrong, we are right there. No truly dominant team exists this season.

Need Xavier Johnson back though. Bates isn't consistent enough if JHS has an off night.

A random Fox Sports post appeared in my Facebook news feed from yesterday, noting that #1 had lost again (Alabama losing to Tennessee).

The most popular comment: "Ok put Purdue back at #1."

lol

Who should be #1? Purdue's lost 3 of their last 4.

Houston again?

Antoine Davis is 185 points from Maravich.

5 games left including tonight and the conference tourney.

He would have to average 37 points over 5 to tie.

IF Detroit somehow won a game in their conference tourney and played a 6th game... He only needs to average 31ppg...

He is at 30 as of this post with a little over 3 minutes left.

Having anything scheduled after a trucks race is bad news. That series is a disaster. Add in spotty weather and you better hope you have FS2 in the TV package.

Abilene Christian vs Grand Canyon has really good flow and pace. I thought that would be impossible with Larry Scirotto officiating. Which Big 1.o game will he be officiating in a few hours?

Did he T up Bryce Drew just because?

If I’m the CBI tournament and he winds up a few points short, I’m looking the other way at their record and inviting them.

Complete side statement:  Northwestern ended up benefiting from the Big Ten rule about not having at least six scholarship players available due to covid and had two games postponed.

To my knowledge, Northwestern only had nine or ten players on scholarship.  IMO, that was their choice and the covid rule should be about the # of players NOT available, not the number of players available.  Three or four spots were CHOSEN not to be filled by Northwestern.

Has zero to do with IU's position in the Big Ten, but there is certainly a possibility that Northwestern will win or share the conference title with that benefit.
