Both Michigan and Illinois have size, skill, and don’t lack athleticism. And it’s across the board in their starting lineup. 
 

You can have a skilled roster with size, like Purdue, and be a second weekend caliber team but have a ceiling. 

Yup - watching Yaxel or Morez Johnson deliberately assigned to defend Amish Boy Smith made it apparent that Michigan has defensive flexibility and general athleticism that a team that starts Oscar Cluff and Flopper Loyer cannot compete with.

Dusty game planned it so very well:

• UM starts three true bigs - Mara, Morez, and Yaxel.
• Mara and one more of the bigs guarded TKR and Cluff/Jacobson
• The third starting big, either Yaxel or Morez, guarded Braden Smith.
• If they tried to ball screen for Smith, it was invariably a UM guard who was switched to Smith. If it was Cluff who ball screened for Smith and Mara was the big, Cluff was too damn slow to get to the basket, and Cluff cannot finish facing the basket.

Why is everyone so convinced May at IU=May at Michigan when its been well documented the Wolverine have the very top NIL.

Its very possible May is that good and he would have IU number one here. Its also very possible If May were here and DeVries at Michigan, Devries would have the Wolverines as a one seed and May has the Hoosiers a nine seed based on program infrastructure.

Its a fun hypothetical to think about, but don't automatically assume its a one for one trade where May at Michigan=May here at IU, as many of our fans seem to assume.

Michigan's Kenpom rating reached 39.45 last night, eclipsing the record they set earlier this season of 39.43.

I agree with that but the issue is look at how well Dusty did at FAU.

I have no issue with Dusty not being here. I don’t believe he will be at Michigan long either. They have a thread on their largest community, MGoBlog, talking about Dusty going to the NBA. Evidently a NBA GM is stating Dusty is the top college coaching candidate this coming cycle. He won’t be in Ann Arbor long.

The crazy things to me about Cronin ejecting his own player are that:

1. The 'flagrant foul' wasn't really flagrant at at all; it was a backup big chasing down a play and getting mostly ball from behind.

 

 

2. Cronin's primary postgame gripe (besides his "Are you talkin' to me?!?" silliness to a reporter)  is that his team isn't nearly physical enough. So he puts in a backup in a blowout, the kid chases a turnover really hard and gets to the run out, and Cronin humiliates the kid in front of 15,000 people. 

3. The kid he 'ejected' is a former MSU student ... not basketball player; a student. He tried to be an MSU student manager or walk-on before transferring out of state. So he probably had many friends at the game. Unless that Jamerson kid is already a pariah, that move by Cronin will completely lose that locker room. UCLA now falling towards the bubble and Cronin should be ashamed of himself.

I'm so glad we didn't hire this jackass. The jury is still out on CDD, but Cronin would've been a terrible hire.

Not guaranteed he would be as successful here, but sure seems like a pretty good bet IMO.

I think he is ambitious and will definitely go. Especially if they win it all this year.

This deal has now moved on to pathetic. Dude’s 25 years old. Played 1 year at Kentucky and had basically no impact. Entered the draft and went undrafted. Has been bouncing around the G League and done nothing. But sure, let’s give college another try.

Not that these rankings are all that legit, but Cadeau was rated just slightly higher than Conerway in 247’s portal ratings. And since we spent for two starters, I’d argue the math is whether Cadeau is more than Conerway and Enright combined.  
 

Just pulled up a couple articles and there’s conflicting testimony as to whether Cadeau wanted money or UNCs new GM sent him packing. Either way, I don’t think he or Johnson or Mara indications they are spending more like Kentucky than Indiana. UMs just getting more out of them than they did at their previous spots.  
 

Oddly enough Lendeborg is the one guy who is giving them a little less but his efficiency is up a touch.  These guys have just come together to become a really good team.

What I have found is that May said that in his first year they were bottom five in the B1G in NIL. That may be a stretch but it’s his words. He was confident this year they would be top 5 and most outside people placing them in the top 2 or 3 in the B1G.  But he’s been very adamant, in several interviews, that it was him and his staff who have went out and raised the NIL themselves by connecting with boosters and former players.  
 

If you have an article or numbers showing that Michigan the institution is the one showering the team with money in a way Indiana can’t, I would be interested in reading that.

He would get more eyeballs on him in the NCAA than the G-League, but come on, this is getting ridiculous.

Michigan had enough money to get a projected first rounder to come back to school for another year and enough money to steal a kid from a rival school where he would of been a starter and Underwood was mad as hell he lost.    They are loaded.  My guess is when they saw what they had in Dusty when they gave him a contract extension after 1 year he had assurances that they would be top a top spender and so far that’s exactly what they have done

They got 322 points. IU was a close second at 320 points. IU’s resources were cited as a big plus for us.  And that’s with UM on top of the world this year. That’s definitely going to color perception in their favor. Nothing there says UM is massively outspending IU. 
 

In fact, money/NIL was cited for UM, IU, MSU and UCLA. That tracks with what Dusty May was saying as basically there is a top 5ish (or top 4 by your article) in the B1G money-wise, then there’s everyone else.
