Only defense is that Woody took over a much tougher job/roster. Still Davis managed to get into the tourney the last two years.

Not sure what Shaka would have to do for this guy to get higher grade. He’s got to be their most successful coach since McGuire.  I don’t think Marquette would trade Shaka any more than ISU would trade Otz.

Woodson also got a pass on SOS... many of us here on BTB could win 60% of the games against that level of competition with the talent that Woodson collected. Without TJD carrying him for the first 2 seasons, Woodson was a solid F.

IU had a top 26 SoS (via Kenpom) his last 3 years.  I guess I never really got that complaint. It was way better than some of those watered down Crean years.

Am I reading correctly that you think the situation that Woodson took over was harder than Davis? LOL!

Mike Davis had the hardest job in the history of college basketball for taking over for a fired Bob Knight.

Wrong Davis. Hubert Davis of UNC is the Davis who is talked about in the article and is being referenced in the comment you replied to.

It was inevitable. Ziegler appears to be arguing that he’s entitled to another year for no other reason than he just simply wants to stay in college and make money. We’re right around the corner from a guy like Ziegler announcing their retirement from a college program at like 35 because they just got old.

The court should make a compromise and allow him to be eligible for 9 games. Seems fair to me.

I wonder how far we are from the 1st NBA-college trade. “The Indiana Pacers announce that they have traded Johnny Furphy to the University of Kentucky for Ortega Oweh and a 2027 top-100 HS commitment.”

Barely kidding

There’s nothing the NCAA can’t screw up, so I have no faith they can navigate this successfully. But, there should be several arguments to maintaining some semblance of the current system:

1) He’s not barred from earning NIL. If he wants to make money off his likeness he’s certainly allowed to. For example, Cody Zeller can come back and make money off of being Cody Zeller former IU player even though he doesn’t have eligibility.

2) So long as the programs are tied to the universities, which have typically been 4 yr degree earning institutions, there is some justification for limiting eligibility to 4 yrs. It’s not a capricious limit to favor the schools but instead allow other student athletes to matriculate through the system.

3) I don’t know much about anti trust law, but I’m failing to see the anti trust issue as he’s allowed to play for compensation in any number of organizations not named the NCAA. And in the event they lose on anti trust grounds they can seek an exception from Congress.

The NCAA is so dumb it drives me crazy. Everyone could see they were going to lose the Obannon challenge from day 1. They had ample opportunity to get in front of this and put something sensible in place. Their obstinacy and idiocy along with horrible public relations have put them in a position to be completely dissolved if this goes south.

We are 100% headed toward a world where someone burns out of the NBA or Euro League but wants to keep making money playing basketball, so returning to college is the best option.

I can see it now. Zach Edey lasts little more than 4 years in the league, but decides college basketball is still an attractive and viable option.

"You're interfering with my ability to make a living" will be his argument while he sues the NCAA and enrolls in school and signs a $2M NIL deal.

Talk me down from the ledge.

If Zach Edey were coming back, he'd get like 10M minimum. That's a 2x NPOY and arguably the most dominant player of this century.

Ok. That isn't really my point though.

The player cited is irrelevant.

These dudes coming back would get crazy money. Especially after 4 years in the NBA.

They just need to stop the madness...

If college basketball ever reached a point where NBA players were allowed to return, I would 1,000% be done with this silliness and become a full-time NBA fan.

Edey getting to put on a Purdue jersey again is nightmare fuel that I'm not wasting any time on.

In the new ACC scheduling model, each team has one league opponent it won't play.

That just strikes me as absurd. Then again, so is having a conference with teams in Boston and Palo Alto, California (sorta like a conference with teams in Piscataway, New Jersey, and in Seattle -- LOL).

SIAP, seen NCAA president Charlie Baker wants to expand March Madness to 72 or 76 teams and supposedly trying to do that this coming season.

The NCAA sucks and has awful leadership lol

I'm fine with expanding the tournament.....IF they get rid of the other meaningless side tournaments (NIT, crown, etc).
