I’m fine with carrying a roster of 10 or 11. But, for me, when 2 of them likely aren’t ready for B1G play that really hinders the team. Karvala and Manhertz should be ecstatic we are penalizing ourselves in terms of roster build. Literally no competition for playing time. My mind is blown. And now we have full staff and a GM concluding this is the way to backfill a roster. CSP 1 Quote
Shooter Posted Tuesday at 09:37 PM Posted Tuesday at 09:37 PM Welcome to IU Justin! I posted it in the other thread, but UConn's 10th and 11th guys last season had the same profile as Monden. Transfers from IU Indy and Le Moyne. We are spending our resources on the guys higher up the rotation. Dave from Dayton and Stuhoo 1 1 Quote

Honestly that’s gonna be the new norm for most programs. Until we start winning we won’t have any chance of joining the upper echelon. Quote

Uncanny how that happens? Unfortunately “bleak” has been the most appropriate descriptor of IU basketball for the past decade. I like what the staff did with the top of the rotation compared with last season, but the way they’ve been filling out the rest of the roster is a big head scratcher. We received a very favorable schedule, though, so hopefully the main guys stay healthy and we can take advantage of it. Stuhoo 1 Quote

"we have no minutes" really isn't a great recruiting pitch Quote
Popular Post Uspshoosier Posted Wednesday at 01:49 PM Author Popular Post Posted Wednesday at 01:49 PM It is what it is. Won’t be able to please some until IU is back to where it was when they were younger. Doubt it ever gets back to that honestly. Before the end of the year it was IU didn’t make the tourney and has no momentum and won’t be able to land anyone in the portal. They won’t sniff the top 25 next year. Fast forward and they land 6 power 5 players where 5 were starters and multiple places have them in the very early preseason top 25. Now it’s the roster building at the bottom of the roster is trash and they are screwing up. Roster was set a month ago now all that’s left is on court results. Sneak peak in a month but that won’t be the full team. Since IU is representing USA the non USA born players won’t be playing BtownStrength, taco corp, IUHoosierJoe and 6 others 9 Quote

The other option when a program that's accomplished nothing spends their budget, is to get a deeper roster of meh players. We tried that last year - we started the year with ten guys that were 'meh' but were featured at their previous school (Tucker, Enright, Conerway, Alexis, Bailey, Drake, Lamar, Dorn, Harris, and Miles). Yes, all started and played 23+mpg in D1 the prior year. That did not produce much of a result. So this year we're going with the other version - pay big bucks on a few guys and hope that a couple young unknowns pan out. We have six unknowns: Harris Sisley Moody Karvala Sokolov Manhertz If three of those are useful and can be added to our five relatively proven players, it will be an excellent year. And by excellent, I mean 11-9 or better in conference and no-brainer tourney team in an expanded field. Hoosierfan2017, CSP and moyemayhem 3 Quote

Good to know where the connection comes from at least. I sincerely welcome this kid to IU, just hope we don't see him play a minute outside of garbage time. Don't get too worked up about man 12 / 13 on the roster. We don't currently have any culture to attract / retain guys and breed competition because of the approach in year 1, so I guess it's nice to have some familiarity around. Every team except the truly elite have imperfections with their roster. Up to the staff to chart a winning path with the guys they've been able to land. Quote
