Also. I would be shocked if this was not agreed to weeks ago and they just held off on announcing it until after the game.  No chance in hell this all came together in less than 6 hours

Coaches conference (or whatever they call it) was a week ago, more than likely happened then.

Everyone has their own motivations for career moves, but…anywhere that isn’t Indiana is a current downgrade by nearly every metric.

Haven't read anything I'd repeat as gospel, but it does look like Tennessee reset the market price to get him. By a lot.

I believe it. We will have coin to spend.

I don’t know how much he made at IU, but I saw on Twitter that Tennessee is paying him $1.2 million.

He was on $425K in season one (19th nationally), then he got a raise in December '24 to $635K and another raise in May '25 (when USC came calling) that got him to $925K (3rd nationally) plus performance incentives.

It's not like we weren't competitive on comp.  UT just made him the highest paid S&C coach.  I bet he would have got another raise here, but at some point you've got to want to be at IU...

Unlike position guys, strength coaches are basically just career strength coaches, right? If that’s the case I can totally see the move for that role pretty much always being whatever the best money is. If UT wants to reset the market with Owings, good for him.

Cig made several comments in the post game crediting the strength coach which is interesting given he is leaving.  No doubt he knew about it and it seemed we could bump up to keep him but he may have just wanted to be in TN.

I wonder why $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ he would leave.
It’s kind of a $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ mystery.

Hate to see him go but I would much rather replace the s&c guy than having to replace both the DC and OC like Oregon.  The percentage of assistants we have retained (knock on wood we keep the rest) is amazing/impressive.

Perfect answer. I’m sure we will find a good fit.
