It’s the nil era. There was no reason not to Build a good roster last year

Uh.  Take a look at when (date) he was hired.

Tonight’s performance with an NCAA tournament on the line was all on the coach. How can you not get your players ready to come out and kick butt in the second half? We looked like a Woodson coached team tonight falling short after leading most of the game.

Judging by his letter he thinks that’s the fans job I guess

Wasn’t he hired the same date as Virginia hired their coach.

This fanbase would win the excuse making Olympics

Ok fine. Lets fire him after one damn season.

any coach with a brain would not touch this job with a 10 foot  pole. You get one year to make the tournament or your fired.

not even the hal steibrenner yankees were that over reactive

if this is the same next year by all means.

After one season is where i disagree

He still is not getting fired after one season.

He gets this offseason to try and build the team in his image

you fire him after one season in which he was not even hired until extremely late in the offseason and you will not get anyone with a pedigree to even want this job

Yeah, any semi-reasonable person knows that. He’s not getting fired if they miss the tourney next year either.

I’m so conflicted on this. On the one hand, late start. On the other, most hires bring some guys with them — staff, players, recruits — to help with the transition. Didn't want to retain any of Woody’s guys (makes sense), but odd that save for his son he didn’t want to keep anybody from his team either. I think it’s fair to say if that’s a choice DDV made then criticism is fair game.

I was hopeful after that stretch earlier this year that we could make the tournament, but this season was decided more or less before summer workouts even started. Roster construction is everything, and we didn’t put together a good one. We’ll see what this portal brings.

I've been patient all year with this team. I am the son of a coach so I tend to be forgiving of coaches.

This loss was egregious. Year 1 was a pass/fail course and if we don't win out, we will not pass the course.

Tonight makes the offseason much more of an uphill climb than it had to be.

Yes, new team 1-13, delays in hiring staff, etc... it's fair to expect making the field of 64/68 in year 1.

Coaches can absolutely still find success without making it in year 1. But it's tougher to excuse in the current landscape where we've got a more than competitive budget. Even with all the "excuses" (some may prefer "context") we should've been able to A) assemble a better roster than this B) with this roster, performed better this season. We had a halftime lead vs Kentucky, up 13 against Nebraska and Northwestern, blew both. USC very winnable game we didn't get done.

Overall, the margins are thin in CBB. A few things break differently and it's a different story...

But it is what it is.

They better be working the portal connections and have something serious in year 2.

The confident player/team won the game tonight. This has been a theme all season. Either we get trounced because our talent isn’t up to par, or we tense up when the other team fights back.  So disappointed in our team and coach.

Cignetti immediately showed results and the admin quickly backed him financially in a huge way
Same thing with Dusty and Michigan. Show you’re the guy early on and they’ll reward you with all the resources you could ask for.

Missing the tourney again for this program, in this era and with a new guy with no track record will impact next year significantly

I guess all those places have been to more tourneys than us since 2016 so maybe I shouldn’t be surprised

You shouldn’t you are invested in a middle of the pack mediocre program that has shown you what it’s become over 20 + years.
