Big thanks to the mod team for keeping us in the loop and doing what can be done to keep the lights on. The extended down time really showed a lot of us what a loss it would be to not have "this thing of ours" anymore.

Hate to say it, but in my opinion web-based sites like these don't make a lot of sense anymore with platforms like Discord out there now. Not sure how familiar everyone is with Discord specifically, but it would be a perfect replacement for this site if it ever came down to it.

I'm not a big Discord fan, but did have that thought. If it ever comes to it, we'll try to find a way to get the word out on that or any alternatives.

It seems, as of now, we have things in good shape. We'll see.

Not sure if it's hard to do or even possible, but occasionally exporting all user email addresses would be a good start to any contingency plans (assuming you don't already do that).

And yeah, there's probably not a platform out there that everyone would agree on. I've just spent a lot of time in various Discord servers and have always been impressed with how easily customizable they are, along with all of the out-of-the-box bells and whistles that we'll never have here.

Not advocating for a move or anyhing if everything here is working fine. I honestly just think the mods on this site are A+ top tier and would love to see them have more control over something that they themselves have spent years and years and years cultivating into an awesome little community. Like, I would reeeally love to hear that you guys get some of that advertising revenue lol - you certainly deserve it.

Hello friends, it is me.   Your lovely mods went on a mission to find me and get a hold of me.  They are amazing and did fantastic work!   
 

Based on their research I was able to get in touch with our server and upgrade it to their newer system.  Apparently we had maxed out our capacity from all your activity. It shouldn’t be an issue moving forward per what they said to me. 
 

all the mods have a group convo with me now so if anything comes up we should be able to troubleshoot it much quicker.   Sorry for being MIA so long, glad to see this place is still as special as I left it!

Your vision, initiative, and posting the first few years got this whole thing rolling, and even though you haven’t been as active lately, you stepping up is keeping it that way.

And even though this is anonymous message board, the mods and 41 now have a  real live true cell # text thread. That means that even if there are technical problems, we can and will still communicate and pick on Old Fart.

I would love the backstory here…lol. I *think* I remember you kind of promoting this place on Peegs (rivals version) back in the day. 
 

Agree the mods are great and the site is one of my favorites. I’m with others that if it is a financial issue, I’m will to pitch in (and I see the link in your sig).

It would also be awesome if you could devise a way to let us all know what's what if/when another issue occurs... maybe Twitter or Instagram? Nothing really conversational as much as "We're experiencing an issue related to xxxxx. We are investigating" type of thing.

It's amazing how dependent we've become on BtownBanners, and just letting us know what's going on would be so beneficial. Not sure how I'd respond to losing this place.

I can’t see my signature so no clue what it says lol, it’s not financial, just ran into server limitations because you crazies made too many posts over the last couple years :).  
 

I did used to post stuff on Peegs, actually started BtownBanners back in the Crean years when he would always talk about a players +/-.   I created an excel workbook that would take the game play data and automatically calculate every player and lineups +/-.   I worked with Peegs and Terry Hutchens (RIP) and got those stats published on Peegs and the Indy Star after all games.   Then started BtownBanners as a place to keep Them all in one place.  
 

I then added a message board and it started to grow.   Then a bunch of the mods from some site, I don’t even remember what it used to be for mad and left there to join BtownBanners.  Then the site really took off from the message board and Terry Hutchens actually came to work for BtownBanners and we got credentialed with IU.  Wild times.  
 

a lot more to it, but we basically became one of the biggest IU Twitter accounts before that was really a thing.  Ton of fun in this place.  I’m still waiting for the day I can reveal the new BtownBanners logo when we get that 6th Banner… it’s been collecting dust for many many years lol

So I attempted a full site update tonight and it failed.  I'll keep working with the server team to improve the site.  Should have quite an updated look soon with the update considereing this place hasn't been updated since like 2020ish...

Unfortunately I can't find the photo I took with him anywhere. He died about a year after I returned and we never got to reconnect in person, but did exchange a few emails over the months leading up to December 2018. I definitely considered him an early career mentor. He was an absolutely brilliant writer and an even more amazing person on a human to human level. RIP to a great man and Indiana legend.

Wow, that is really touching...such a cool story. I had no idea!

 

I can remember the first time I thought we made it big here at btownbanners....I was browsing the sports section of barnes and noble and found a book Hutch had wrote...and on the back it was stated "head writer of btownbanners.com" It felt like a "wow we made it" moment. Terry has several books for sale still to this day on amazon and other book stores across the country. He was a pleasant guy to work with, and his passing still hurts me.
