Anyone considered going to the CFB? i was just investigating the site and you can do a RSVP for Indiana but you lose all your money if they don't make the championship.

Pondering going to Bloomington during the  championship game. Might be one hell of a party. Thinking of bring a camera crew

The college football National Championship Game is in Miami at Hard Rock Stadium...

PRE-GAME PARTY AT MY HOUSE!!!!

Might be in your backyard twice. One of the Quarterfinal games is at Hard Rock also. I’ve already looked into travel for the 4 quarterfinals and that one is BY FAR the toughest.

And all about 55 miles from my front door.

The way Cig describes Maryland, and virtually all of our opponents, they should be ranked top 5…:)

He isn’t going to let the team relax against anyone.

The ol’ Lou Holtz routine. Of course, Lou was pretty good at getting his guys up for big games and navigating tough schedules. Cig is good in these press conferences.

Yea, he is.

It's interesting -- after he said some attention grabbing things early in his tenure he developed an image as a cocky sh1ttalker and that kinda dominated the discourse around IUFB.  I get why, it was entertaining.  But as we know his statements (Google me, PU/UM/OSU suck, etc.) were mostly directed at the IUFB program and IU fans to let them know that our old loser mentality is over and we aren't going to be a doormat anymore.  But almost no one in the media was going to pick up on that nuance or care.

The reality is he's a much more lowkey guy in press conferences.  It's nice to see the sh1ttalker "image" mostly fall away and the focus is now on the program and the results, where it should be.

Google me

The most out of context viral quote of all time. The question was something along the lines of how do you turn over the roster so quickly and get kids to a horrible P4 program without any proof of concept at this level and that answer was basically him throwing his hands in the air and being like “idk man, this is all I got.”

Or at least that’s always been my interpretation.

And I still have a friend from college who is an IU fan and goes to games with me who doesn't understand that nuance - he still thinks that Cignetti was told to stand down on the swagger and **** talking. SMH

Yeah. This gets constantly misreported. He didn’t say it at his opening press conference, as many have reported. He said it at a press conference during the portal recruiting season in response to a question regarding what he could possibly tell recruits to convince them to come to Indiana given Indiana’s football history and Cig’s lack of experience at a Power 4 school.  And it wasn’t the first time he had gotten that question. His answer after being asked a few times, “I win. Google me.”

Another narrative that irks me a bit is some people say IU/Cig tries to run up the score.  I'd guess they just look at the score in a few games and conclude that.

Yes, last year, we did in certain instances (lol!).  But, we were under fire from many parts of the CFB landscape and had to make statements to the committee.

This year though, as anyone who pays any attention knows, in our two big blowouts we pulled Fernando and other starters at the end of the 3rd.  And it's not realistic to ask Alberto and the second stringers to not try for 15+ minutes.  Duh.

This is not a big deal.  But it's just another instance of an odd narrative.

We're getting the 'real' Coach Cig this year. Last year he had to "Change the way people think." He's reported multiple times that it was pretty much near dead and was irked about the culture he saw in like minutes he stepped on campus. He just recently said on PMS that he chewed Dolson's ars as well. Like, he had to 'change the way people think' from top to bottom and this wasn't his first rodeo.

Regarding the "Google Me" comment, he was reading the room and probably could have been diagnoses with sleep deprivation, but he basically had enough of some of the questions he was being asked. The question in particular, Todd Golden with, at the time, CNHI Indiana, was about how does Coach Cig sell his vision to both HS and portal recruits. And to be fair, the initial question that was asked was a jumbled mess of word salad. Coach Cig told him he didn't even understand what was the question. It was a mic drop moment for IUFB on epic proportions. The presser was the 2023 December signing period. Here's a link to the presser. I just rewatched it and he effin' told us how it was going to be and pretty insightful overall. No one (the media/press) listened.

Its D1 football there is no running up the score.

If you don't want us to score, stop us.

In one game (Illinois, I think), Alberto didn't even throw a pass so they ran every play. They still scored 2 TD.

As for the sh*t-talking/cockiness, some of what people considered to be that was saying that IU would be making the B1G Championship game and CFP. No one believed it possible so they just chalked it up to talk. Yet here we are, having already made the CFP in year 1 and look very good to make both the B1G Championship and CFP in year 2. It's not looking like sh*t-talking or cockiness now, just a great prediction.

Since we're talking nuance and all of that, has anyone noticed the difference in the way Cig talks about Haines vs Shanahan? He seems reluctant to praise or give credit to Shanahan. Wonder what that's all about? Is it just that Cig feels he's still the one behind the offense or does Shanahan sometimes go against the grain a little too much or what?

I get the general sense that Haines is a leader that is a fantastic technician, whereas Shanahan is a fantastic technician.

For me, Cig clearly sees Haines as his 'son from a different family'. That's Cig's junior clone in work ethic and manner. Shanhan gets tons of compliments, but it seems to be always about devising schemes or calling plays; not about personality or manner.

I haven't noticed anything like that at all. I hear him give praise to all of his coaching staff. In the post game UCLA presser he gave a nice complement to Shanahan about being able to call plays at the right time. The most recent praise about Haines was because Coach Cig was specifically asked about Haines.
