Except for the obvious fact that we just signed DDV away from another P4 program....

Except WV wasn't a a very successful program. Trying to sign guys from ALA or TT is different than going after an asst coach from Vandy,  ASU, or Providence.

From a lower power conference team and it wasn't a lateral move. I thought the only power conference coaches we could get was someone like Brownell who is at a lower power conference program. I think you can put Devries in that same category because WVU is not a top job. Also Devries has only been there 1 year donut made it easier to move on.

I just think these assistant coaches have to move around a lot already so why move when you don't need to.

Not sure I agree with that. WVU has had a final four, an Elite 8, and 5 Sweet 16s since IU's last final four.

This is the problem with only being willing to pay the fair market value. Other teams will usually just match

Kind of seems like all the big spending talk for IU is just that - talk. I’m not seeing an administration that’s willing to do more than the status quo when it comes to money.

I did see that Tucker is getting $3 million in NIL and I don’t know how to feel about it. On one hand, that’s probably what someone would pay him on the market. On the other hand, IU is spending $3 million on guy who was coming to IU regardless but allegedly wouldn’t pay over $2 million on the Xavier guard who was exactly what we needed.

Idk, there’s still a lot of time but not having two of our assistants still and seemingly missing on the two people felt confident in coming doesn’t paint a great picture. Hope for some better news too.

9 games over .500 the last 7 seasons with 1 tourney win and not a ton of NIL. That isn't the same level of program from which IU has been hunting  and failing in their search for assistants. IU could probably pull asst  from WV equivalent programs. Being an asst at IU will open more doors than being one at WV. The same can not be said about ALA and the like. Their needs to be a reason to move and IU can't offer one over other top 25 programs.

You seen Cignetti's contract? His assistants contracts? IU has fended off both Penn State and Ohio State for Bryant Haines alone in the last couple months.

I 100% doubt that.

so... looooots of heresay in this post.

We just gave our football coach $8 million per year, his asst pool money is HUGE, we have a Top 10 paid coordinator in the country....

Archie Miller buyout, Tom Allen buyout, Woodson buyout.... then... gave DDV 10 million for NIL, Cignetti getting LOTSSSS moving forward.... spending money is the LAST of our issues on the admin side of things, pretty clearly.

Yea, IU is really pushing.  This last fiscal year the athletic dept got a $25M loan from the university to help fund some of what you outlined in the short term.  Unprecedented from IU.

And all of this is happening as the $22M rev share expense is about to kick in.  Some media rights increases will help, but IU is spending like we never have before in a not exactly easy environment to spend.

If we can keep building our football program that is going to help our AD finances so much.

Overall, IU’s overall commitment to athletics is pretty impressive under Scott/Pam.

Sorry, I was thinking of basketball when I posted this. For the past two coaching searches we’ve heard about how IU is willing to spend all this money on a “big fish” but we don’t end up landing one and pay the new coach a good but not eye popping amount (not that I think either Woodson or DD should’ve been paid more). Hard to tell whether that’s from IU not offering the huge salaries to others or just not getting someone to take it.

The football pay has been great and I hope it continues. If I had to pick between basketball and football, I’d pick for IU to be great at football.

Is there any actually reported / confirmed amount of what IU has paid in portal funds to any of the current basketball players? I haven't seen it.

Nothing confirmed but rumor is that Quinn and Woodson  passed down their fleece(ing) jackets to Darian and Tucker.

100% doubt. That's funny...

All of this is hear say, no? I mean they don't have to report it to any public source.

Getting a "big fish" precludes everything else. That's the problem, not money.

We do have big money, but we need people who know how to use it.

- Top-10 or so player payroll.  Though of course other schools have enough payroll available they can get aggressive for players they like, so we can’t just dominate other schools in recruitments with huge offers.  What we can do is get involved with most players and we can afford a few more good players than most schools.  This is a big advantage, but we still have to win close recruitments and get the right guys.

- We have the largest staff budget in the B1G and a top-5 or 7 athletic dept budget (this excluded player payroll) for basketball in the country.  No expense spared for bball — recruiting trips etc. are basically unlimited:

Hopefully CDD can use all these resources effectively, as we saw this can be wasted.  If CDD can do it our ceiling is high.

That's because we are a football school :)

Yeah it seems that both players and coaches have taken our offers and went back to get more money from others

It’s a simple concept…we’re not a winning program and everyone knows it! Hopefully it changes soon….winning will fix it all.

Trying to draw lines between Clemson, WVU, and TT with regards to IU pulling coaches, assistants at that, is just self loathing.

Anyone that can be pulled out of WVU or Clemson can be pulled out of TT. If it doesn’t happen it isn’t on IU, the AD or for fans.

Again the big fish aren't leaving their current jobs no matter the money
