Curry Hicks Sage hinted at Stevens backing out on Sunday night

Recommended Posts

For me this Stevens story is crazy. I definitely think it was misinformation and a little telephone game. If Dolson ever said we got our guy. Well, that could be DeVries . I would love to know if Devries or McConnell was our first choice.  I’m not mad at any of our insiders. If Stevens really was coming, we will eventually find out the truth. Thanks Chris for all the time you spend on here. If anyone remembers me in the past two coaching hires. I didn’t handle it well. I do give me a little credit though, I said from the beginning that Archie and Woody were  terrible hires. I started disappointed this time, but mostly because I didn’t know who this coach was. I think he’s going to be a good one.

I think you guys just like saying the name, Ron Mexico haha

Someone even referred to me as Mr. Mexico earlier today.  Never in a million years did I think I would garner that level of respect.

Can someone refresh my memory as to why we landed Carlyle and not Conwell?

The funniest thing is that at least some of these people don't know how funny your username is.

Unquestionably a top-5 alias.  Vick is a great comeback story, so no disrespect by any means here. Many people could learn a thing or two from his story.

It’s very interesting as to why Stevens said no this time around again. Would he have said yes if his daughter was out of H.S? Does he truly never want to coach again? I have been told, he will get back into coaching at some point.

I would hate for him to accept a college job like Butler next year once that opens. Perhaps we’re looking for a new coach 3-4 years from now, perhaps not.

Comeback from dog fighting or vd?

Dog fighting then prison.  Returned to the NFL, became a motivational speaker and is now a college football coach.  He owned his mistakes and earned redemption.

Can’t speak to the vd

Vick is a redemption story. But Ron Mexico was the pseudonym he used when he was being treated for vd.

Let's hope Stevens regrets his second last second about face for a good 15 years this time.

I'm really hoping we won't have to look for another one for the next 15-20 years, but in case we have to, I wish our AD either doesn't call Stevens at all or gives him a definite deadline to give IU a final answer. This guy is just not meant for IU coaching job.

Hold up here Ron.  So you choose the name Ron Mexico but did not know about the vd part of the story?

Oh no I am fully aware.  Contextually, I could not relate the vd issues to a story of redemption.  If he still needs help in that regard, I can refer him to my Tijuana clinic

Word got spread to a lot of people that he said yes. RTZ, BTB, Toni, AP, GP, Mrbball and myself all heard that. Then a little birdie told me Sunday night that he actually said no and Dolson was crushed for a little bit but thankfully he had been working on a backup plan since January with McCollum and DeVries. I would say a lot of people on here already know this. I’ve been asked by at least 25 people today for the full story. I can send it to you if you would like. Just to be clear I love the hire and IMO Dolson handled this perfectly.

Interesting. I certainly hope we have found our coach for the foreseeable future, but if any of this is true, I lose that dudes number. He's a smart guy. He knows how bad he screwed not only Dolson, but IU.

Yes; Carlyle had a close pre-existing Georgia relationship with Ya Rosemond.

I'm sure I am in the minority, but if Stevens didn't really want the job I am really glad he said no! Glad we got a coach that wants to be here, I think we may have hit a homerun!
I think the statement by Dolson in the press conference about "wanting to be here" and "recruiting us as well" was communicating that there were people that said no and I don't think Dolson liked how or when they said no. It was almost like a pointed statement.

I would love for him to take the job there and reinstitute the Hoosier classic games so the D-Rock-Hoosiers could steamroll the Bradly Bulldogs!

I believe all of this. What I don't understand is the absolute certainty on everyone's part that Brad Stevens would have guaranteed wins. He hasn't coached anybody for four years and hasn't coached in college in over a decade. College basketball is not even the same sport as it was when Brad Stevens was winning at Butler with Shelvin Mack and Gordon Hayword. It's been so long that Hayword, his best player, just retired after a 14-year NBA career.

Name recognition is all it was! I wanted a college coach from this decade…we got a damn good one!
