I haven’t watched them play but Kenpom has them at 68th.

And while I understand why people are touting what he’s doing with division 2 transfers, that to me is a double edged sword. He will almost certainly have less continuity in his system at his next stop.

Plus, if his offensive system really doesn’t emphasize 3 pointers then he is starting to sound like another Archie Miller to me.

I thought about this w/ CCC as well. Won't know until after next season for both of them, but in CCC's case he has done it at enough stops that I'm less concerned.

Pardon my ignorance -- just saw this and don't want to pore over the entire thread.

And I'm probably having a bit of a brain fart -- but who is CCC?

I am a big McCollum fan. In all my time watching college basketball, it feels like these guys who scrapped their way through the DII level almost never fail. Usually those DII guys don't stay long enough to win 4(!!!) championships, there were rumors that McC was abrasive and difficult to work with in his personal life which may have contributed to his lack of DI opportunities.

I think we could get him, but I would be wary of Iowa here. It's an open secret that Fran's retirement is quickly approaching and Iowa's A.D. has been eyeing B-Mac. He's from Iowa City and took Drake in part to position himself well for that opening.

I also think people should be wary of style of play. No doubt they are well-coached, but his teams play SLOW (dead last in country in tempo). There might be an argument that we don't want to be that team but most of us probably don't care if he wins.

Boring and winning > Boring and losing for sure.

But not every coach, even very good ones, have a style of play that translates to the high major level.

To recruit the type of talent needed to contend nationally would be very difficult with a super-methodical style of play. So McCollum would likely have to adjust his style some; the best coaches are willing to adapt.
