Darian DeVries - New IUBB Head Coach

Recommended Posts

We just need a coach.  This program has tried to get by on BS "flash" without substance for the better part of twenty years and that hasn't helped.
18-15, 25-5, 21-10, 19-10, 22-11, 3 NCAA appearances and 1 Sweet 16.  That was Wade's first 5 years at a P5.  LSU was 10-21 the year before he got there.  People fall in love with names.  With Beard, all Dolson has to do is go to Pat Knight and say, "Hey what about this guy?"  We aren't the only school that sniffed that and saud "No Thanks" and he had 2 really good years in P5 and every other season was between 18 an 22 wins.  It isn't like he is winning 25+ games a year and that whole thing with his girlfriend is a MASSIVE red flag.
Anybody complaining before the ball has been tipped in the first game is just a professional pessimist.
Yeah, I'm in....I'm excited to see where he goes with his staff and the portal. I've had such a "blah" feeling about everything surrounding IU basketball, that I had forgotten what it felt like to anticipate good times ahead.

What people like @Chris007 and @RoadToZion don’t realize is that “Dolson has his guy” meant DeVries some time ago. It’s fun to write fan fiction for 40 days about stuff that was never true, but it’s harmful, especially without names of sources. Personally, I DM’d Chris and he didn’t respond because he didn’t have real names and that’s when I knew it was made up. If you have a real source, attach a name to it. If you can’t, you have something to hide. “I’m trying to protect my sources” -> Go ask a real booster how much they care about sharing their name with what they’ve heard. My guess is he just heard from other people on here who were dreaming / fan girling. People like him make me want to believe, but the fanfiction is never true and it’s not rooted in reality or objectivity .

Leading people to the dumbest possible conclusions / outcomes and setting unrealistic expectations alongside your “anonymous” board posters who want to boost the same narrative hurts what we’re trying to do as a university. It steals the joy from everyone on here when we make an objectively awesome hire like the one we just made. (No one can see how awesome it is because we did a breaking-Brad story on here.and thought if not him, it was someone like Brad). People like Jeff Goodman give it a spark by including names that were never an option because he wants clicks, then this board takes it and runs with it.

If Brad Stevens actually wanted this job, Woody would have stepped down a while ago. There was never a “done deal” with him or anyone else besides DeVries. DeVries was the done deal. There was never a conversation had or a handshake deal with Brad. Never. Also, because it needs to be said: Chris Beard was never a serious candidate because the Knight family hates Beard. Another thing this board doesn’t seem to get.

This was an incredible hire. Incredible. I looked at over 40 “successful” midmajor or former midmajor guys in January and he’s in a select handful that will succeed. I had no idea if we’d hire him and to me, his hire was wishful thinking. We actually poached a guy from a Power 4 school, who quite literally, transformed a 9-23 team and had the team in the tournament without his 2 best players. His 18 years under Altman and McDermott should speak for themselves. He wins no matter who his assistants are (Archie did not) and that’s also huge!

If you actually want insider info, follow IUanon1976, Tyme, or ScottDolson’sBurner. They’re actual insiders. It may not be what you want to hear, (and I know a lot of people on here don’t like them because it isn’t what they want to hear), but it’s real information, not fanfiction. This has been my tedtalk

Any relation to BehindTheBench?  I had a similar overreaction when the last Chi-Chi's shut down for good.

I was Peeved when the Chi-Chi's here in Evansville closed down because I loved their pineapple margaritas.  I am ready for some portal szn.

Bloomington South just went to the semi-state and returned a lot of players including Fife's daughter. They add her and that is a pretty good squad.

I apologize for the offensive nature of my input today. I do enjoy this forum and many of the contributions made. They are thought provoking and often times encouraging.  It's been my intention to not be insulting to anyone. I am a 50+ year fan and times have changed. Let's all hope for a Mullins flip. That would bring excitement to all.

Also a 50+ year fan... and as nice as a Mullins flip might be, there's already plenty to be excited about... the Wizard of Broad Ripple and his lazy ways are gone, and Indiana has a young, energetic coach who knows what he wants in players and in a team, and has a clue about Xs and Os...

I'm so excited that I'm ready to buy a Pontiac.

Bullsh7t. This was a Monday night panic move. These are typical after the fact comments ro take this yawner of hire and splash some AD speak on it. Soccer Mom Pam mentioned ethics and other "no way in he'll Beard or Wade" crap.

He was repeating his 2021 performance and the search firm list was in front of him and he fn panicked. Can he go out and knock on the doors he needs to and make the right friends in the state......? We'll see.

DDV while answering a press question mentioned them respecting his WVU team in season. Do you actually think Dolson went to DDV and said, " Hey I bombed with Stevenson again and if you could do me a solid and at the presser, sneak in a tidbit about me talking to you weeks ago that would be much appreciated."

While a respect the enthusiasm of the conspiracy theory and you are likely an intelligent man that smells of lavender and sandlewood, that statement is ignorant of any facts.

IUannon1976 is a new account and it hit this hire, I don't know what else it said or how right it's been on anything else.

Tyme was lost this entire time in this coaching search, and is just a poster from this board that is no more or less connected than other insiders on this board.  Nothing, and I mean nothing was gained from him this entire search.

ScottDolson'sBurner is a walk on player who never saw the floor (if he was a player at all) that simply regurgitates Woody's victim and entitled mentality that a lot of the team seemed to make their identity.   He also did not make one concrete addition to this search other than defending Woody's bad record, and thinks the kids don't want to play hard here because some small subsect of fans post mean awful stuff on social media.

I too was initially bummed yesterday when the news broke, but I’m warming to the idea and going to give coach DD at least the equal chances I’ve given our past coaches. I liked the press conference and his attitude and repeatedly talking about work. All of that was refreshing. I’m proceeding with caution, as IU has been winning the off-season most of my life, but also think we might have gotten it right.

Kind of related, if you’re DD, what NIL number do you reach out to the Mullins camp with? You have to at least make a call.
