Penn State post game thread

I enjoyed that game. Ballo was a beast. Nice short-handed effort against what is normally a good Penn State team. They were bad today but we were a decent factor in making them bad.

Coughed up a 16 point lead due to all the things we struggle with.

Like I said before, there is a good team hiding in there just gotta get the right guys doing the right things.

Carlyle is currently broken. Maybe he’s always been. It’s hard for me to imagine him being good.

Tucker Is doing extra work right now but he can do more. Crashing the glass a bit. Getting to rim a bit more.

It’s a good point on Tucker. His shot isn’t falling but with his size he needs to continue to hit the glass and be active on defense if he wants consistent minutes

We need more from the bench because Everytime we go to the bench the other team makes a run. In the second half we get up 16 and then have 3 reserves in and PSU makes a run to cut it to 5. I thought he kept MM out to long and should have brought him in a couple of minutes earlier.

Preseason there was a ton of talk about how if we were going to be good, it would be because Rice, Ballo, and team depth were much much better.
Right now we’re pretty good and it’s largely because of Ballo, Rice, and depth.

Yeah, I like our top 6 or 7. Ballo has mostly carried us over the past 2 with Mgbako scoring and Rice. Gallo might be our better passing PG. He’s playing well.

Tucker is slightly better but a long way off. Leal does the little things and is great for team chemistry. Carlyle is virtually unplayable. Hatton lineups get killed quickly in the B1G. Goode is hitting some shots. I wish Carlyle was better because what he was scouted to be is exactly what this team needs. Reneau is very important to this teams success. They need to figure that out.

I think you can play Ballo and Reneau just not with Mgbako for long stretches. My guess is we are best with 2 of these 3 on the floor.

I feel like Illinois fans would find the defensive performance from Luke Goode today completely unrecognizable from what they saw for years.

He was fantastic defensively today—always in the right place and not really blown up on any drives.

and he went hard for rebounds. Came up with several big ones

+1.  80 minutes with two of those three in works out to 27 minutes/man.  There will be times where all three are in (first 6-8 minutes seems to work that way).

Right now we’re pretty good and it’s largely because of Ballo, Rice, and depth.

Much better running a more balanced inside and outside game with one true big and Goode shooting (pun intended). 23 3’s, 39%, Bako with 20 on 4-8 from deep while Ballo dominated inside. That is so much more obviously effective than the idiotically dated, ineffective, low-scoring 2 big “offense” with Malik and Ballo. Hope Woodson, who was forced to run these lineups (at length) bc of Malik’s injury, learns from this game.

We have a good team, imo. There’s enough talent here, that we saw going into the season, to make at least some noise. But it will require Woodson to stop rolling out out the same 2-big lineups when Malik is back

Any word on the team’s trip home? Some folks at the game were saying they may not be able to get back to Bloomington tonight or even for a few days possibly because of the storm?

5:30 pm this evening from the Indy Star.  And from what I've seen, weather is worse south of Indy.

The Indianapolis International Airport has cancelled more than a hundred Sunday flights due to heavy snowfall brought on by Winter Storm Blair. The National Weather Service has predicted up to 10 inches of snow to fall through Monday.

Flight tracking website FlightAware shows 113 cancelled flights leaving from or arriving at the Indianapolis International Airport on Sunday as of 4:30 p.m. That's about 24% of outbound flights and 43% of inbound flights Sunday.

Another 58 flights have been delayed leaving from or arriving to Indianapolis, according to FlightAware.

When Mgbako was shooting FTs toward the end of the game, Kern was talking crazy smack to Mack - who calmly sank both.

This post game question at 4:05 from a reporter asked what Kern saw from Mgbako and Ballo, what kind of challenges they presented. His response will serve as quite the bulletin board material IMO.

I glanced and noticed what looks like the team charter from Philly that landed at 5:45PM into Indy.  Monroe County airport was likely closed today, not enough snow removal equipment.

It's not that bad, 5" snow and tapering off now.  Worst part for the team was probably the slow bus ride down to Bloomington.
