We probably know roughly what we're getting out of Burton, Sherrill and Yugi

I think I agree with your overall post, but I wouldn’t pencil in the above as 100% certain.

To be maximally effective Burton probably needs to swing about 10% from the create his own shot to the create shots for others category. Sherrell has as much upside as anyone, but he probably has to be our second most important offensive weapon. He was the 5th leading scorer for Alabama last year (but was second in PER).  Yigi was the big guy in the middle of 4 perimeter players at SMU, all of whom were good 3pt shooters. Spacing will be different at IU.  So the fit with him and Sherrell and to a lesser extent Mustaf have to be there.

I think there’s a little elasticity to the range of expectations for those 3. If the scouting and fit is right, they all have a chance to be better than their previous spots. If it’s not, we’re still talented enough for the tourney but it won’t be nearly as fun.

We'd be damn lucky to get Sam Alexis for the minutes we have available. Michael Durr would be very solid, too.

I don't think fans are how little we have left to "sell" someone on coming here.

In just a very respectful way, I don't agree with this at all. Karvala+Moody I full expect to be in the Top 10/11. And, if they aren't able to do that, I don't know that we scouted all that well.

Yeah, I agree about those 2 but Manhertz prob needs a year to put on some muscle and adjust.  I'm mainly worried about the Bigs and Yig foul trouble plus the fact that we are injury prone.  All I would like to see is one or two developmental bigs that actually have some obvious upside like say (Josiah Parker)  not him as a depth Big, but with his level of ability.  I think that is doable with the time we have left to sell.. IMO

I love our fanbase. Lol

I think there will be games that our two bigs play over 30 minutes. If we're a good team. (Top 20, better than 6th in conference) there should plenty of mop up minutes for a third big, to include injury/foul trouble. If Sherrell does average over 30 minutes it means he's under 250 and in great shape.

I hope Burton can complete a season playing around 33 minutes a night.

That is great in a perfect world, but foul trouble, fatigue & injury are certain. If Sherrell twists an ankle and is out for 3 games during conference play, who is playing center in your scenario when Samet picks up 2 quick fouls? I think a capable back-up center is still an absolute requirement for this roster.

IU didn't pay the kind of money they did for either of them just to stagger them. They paid premium money to create mismatches on both ends by playing them together. Still think we need another 6'11-7 foot banger that can defend and rebound off the bench.

"There will be games you won't play but there will be games you play 15 or so minutes". This type of sale for 5 man could realistically get us a Payton Sparks level big man. I'd be ok with that in all honesty. You're not getting an ambitious high level player at this point imo.

Need a back of the rotation big for 8th man minutes and two practice players.

Maybe we go to Europe for the 8th man.

agree somebody to play the 4/5. Looking at who is left in the portal options might be:

Christian Reeves- College of Charleston

Yaak Yaak- Oregon State

Kyle Evans- UC Irvine

Josiah Parker-FAU

Sebastian Williams-Adams- Auburn

No idea if we have reached out to any of these guys. This no leaks policy seems to be working. Would be pleasantly surprised with any one of those 5

Really wanted Gavin Sykes for that pure shooter in the guard rotation but expect he wants starter minutes.

Several options on the Euro scene:

Luigi Suigo

Sayon  Keita

Leonardo Okeke

Mouhamed Faye

I believe someone on here suggested they would not be available until May or June. So might have to hold a spot until then.

Then you have the 5th year possibility and maybe Sam Alexis if he is open to the idea. Who knows when that will be decided?

So I am guessing it will be awhile before the roster is finalized which for us fanatics is very frustrating.

Not an ambitious high level player, but you could get a rising senior that doesn't project to get an NBA payday but does the basics well enough for 10mpg and hopefully is capable enough to give you up to 20mpg in case of injury or foul trouble.

I don't think the 5th year thing will happen this offseason. I am fine with that but it's too bad since Alexis would be a perfect 3rd big.

IMO we are most likely to find what we are looking for in Europe at this point. Of course I'd love to already know the complete roster, but personally I am not too frustrated at the idea of having to wait until summer. Especially if it nets us a better quality 3rd big than many are expecting. I'm just pleased we seem to have learned from last portal and built a team of established P5 guys.

But that isn't the type of pitch IU has going into next year. IU has two proven front court players right now on it's entire roster and those guys are expected to start along side each other. Sisley obviously figures to factor into the rotation somewhere, but he's more of a tweener 3/4 than he is a 4/5. You can easily sell 15-18 mpg game to a more than serviceable big and not have to worry about breaking any promises.

Honestly, I think Sisley's best path is improving as a ballhandler and perimeter shooter and becoming a 3 and D player on the wing. I'm not terribly comfortable playing Sisley exclusively at the 4 until he improves his strength and rebounding numbers.

Somebody like an Aaron Bradshaw who has been a career 16-17mpg player at the P4 level or a low major starting looking for a bigger payday and chance to play elite competition. They are out there.

Iowa was able to convince the 2025 Horizon POY Alvaro Folgueiras to come be a 20 mpg guy off the bench, not sure why we can't do that with somebody this year.

The backup up big I suggested we get “for insurance purposes” in the same post you quoted but didn’t highlight for some reason?

That reads as a  "steal a few possessions" guy. That's a Langdon Hatton. Need more than that off the bench.

No you don’t.

We’re already playing two seven footers surrounded by some unproven shooting. Your best bet will be to stagger some minutes with Sherrell playing 5-10 min a night at the 5.

Playing a substandard 5 man 10mpg so you can always play two bigs just comes at the expense of our wing players where we are much deeper. We’ll just drive our efficiency, especially offensively, off a cliff trying to do that.

If we get an Alexis-type, then great. I wouldn’t expect it with this next pickup though.

I don't anticipate Sherrell or Shamet playing more than 25 mpg a piece next year. Regardless if you stagger them or not, there's still ~30 front court minutes available. Unless we're guaranteeing 15 mpg to Sisley at the 4 (which would be dumb), there's a 15-20mpg at minimum to sell a tweener 4/5. Getting an insurance 5 and letting Sisley be the first frontcourt player off the bench would be staff negligence.

Maybe we agree more than I thought, But in my opinion, they need someone for more than just worst case scenario/long-term injury. Fouls/match-ups/fatigue with the bigs are gonna be regular occurences.

Much like we saw this last season, post play is vital in the B1G. So gotta have depth, since one is none.

Yep. A fresh backcourt is the best backcourt. Most these bigs cap out at an efficiency level at a certain minute allocation. Dumb to want to run your backcourt into the ground and then say we only need an insurance big. I'm not sure how that makes sense? Plenty of teams with elite starting backcourts found 17-20 mpg for a big off the bench. Arizona did it. Illinois did it. Morez and Mara each played less than 25mpg last year for Michigan.

Your opinion is derived from Sisley not eating 15ish mpg at the 4. In which case I agree with you but I actually think that may be the staff's plan here. If it is then getting a 5 that can rebound and defend is all you need. A net zero guy that won't help tremendously but also won't hurt tremendously.
