People are already jumping off a cliff for a guy who'd been to how many schools? I wanted Conwell, but people are really overreacting about one guy. Sorry, but he's obviously taking the biggest offer. We have to build an entire team from scratch.

I think the angst is because we have like 11 spots to fill and a **** ton of money and so far have (maybe) landed a back up guard.  It is early, but this has been a slooooow start.

Still have not heard officially that Enright has commited, only heard from a couple of burners that have been decently accurate.  Assuming he has committed, would assume that it shows tomorrow morning.

Don’t listen to them.  It solves a lot of issues when it doesn’t become reality.

For this fanbase it should be.

Do you get paid to police reactions on here or is it a volunteer gig?

It’s a sports message board bro, you new to this? I’m upset we didn’t get Ryan Conwell because he’s better than just about everyone out there

We also have an incoming 4 star recruit and the coaches son who's a top portal guy.

There's plenty of reason to believe DDV was prioritizing Conwell, though. He was one of the first recruits to visit campus.

Seems like a good indicator to me. It's okay to observe when the new coach didn't win a recruiting battle, even if it is his first.

Some are more frantic about it than others... we'll see where things stand in a month.

One good player not signing does not break things at all. Just means one more unknown for fans to occupy themselves with.

This board is where all of us maniacs come to do that

I'm not implying that DDV didn't want Conwell. I'm just saying that we have no idea what DDV's state of mind was. People on this board are acting like the sky is falling. I'm offering a different perspective that we have no idea what's going on behind the scenes.

I'm not even tryinig to "defend" DDV, even if that's how it's coming across. I suppose I'm playing devil's advocate a bit here, as the coaching search is still fresh in my mind which showed how little we knew what really went on behind the scenes then.

It would be valuable for all of us to keep that in mind during this player scramble...

Currently I believe 69 players have committed to new schools.  So the average team has 20% of one recruit so far.

This fanbase is a world champ at trying to put lipstick on a pig.  Stop what iffing this. We had an elite player on campus.  We clearly wanted him.  We didn’t get him. That’s an L no matter you spin it

I tend to lean this way, but…. College fans are going to have to start thinking like pro fans. It matters what players you get AND at what cost. I find it hard to believe Louisville way outbid us, but if they did to a number that makes it difficult for them to get other good players, then it isn’t necessarily a big loss.

In the NBA, for example, your two best players eat up a high percentage of your overall salary and you fill in from there. You can’t spend 1/3rd of your salary on your 3rd or 4th best guy.

I think the big reason why so many folks are disappointed is because a lot of "insiders" on twitter and elsewhere have been edging Indiana fans with "Conwell to IU" type posts. And then he gets to his next stop and immediately commits lmao

Always the bridesmaid type sh!t. I get the frustration. I'm frustrated. But portal season is far from over. Lots more to come.

Maybe for some, but I’m disappointed because he’s an amazing, amazing basketball player. Compared to the guard play we saw last year, him with DDv would have been magical.

Maybe it’s just me but like I feel like unless we want money first guys some of the best talent may not want to come to IU until IU has a product/vision for this year. Also we may not get big names and that’s okay. We need to focus on fixing the brand. We need a good season next year like Louisville had and capitalize on it next off season.

It might be possible for IU to have as good of a season as L'ville and not finish 2nd in the B1G, like they did in the ACC too. That conference was pure garbage last year - other than Puke, of course.

I don't think Rabjohns knows much of anything to be honest.

I've lost track. I know Rabjohns lost access to the program and knew nothing about the coaching search.

Does he have any kind of decent track record with recruiting info?

Might explain some things

Potentially backs up what @Home Jerseysaid earlier. Perhaps Conwell wasn’t really interested in IU until they started throwing money in his face and the opportunity was too good to not at least entertain. Almost all of us on here are biased when it comes to IU and likely have a much different outlook/perspective than the average 18-22 year old.

That would be a very solid year 1. And as we've seen, can generate plenty of momentum as it has for UL.

I so agree with your post, especially the bolded. It must be incredibly difficult to sell guys on a roster of two right now. Never coached a game at Indiana. Only got to Bloomington two weeks ago. Going to be very hard to sell some guys on that. Have to be able to identify the ones who that's not a problem for - one of multiple reasons that I like the Enright pick up.

It's going to be much easier to sell star guys to play for you at a school after you've shown you run a competent system there and win. Money helps and we should still be able to build a good roster but I think we mostly knew it was very unlikely to land all of Conwell, Dix, and Bidunga.
