Seemed like there was something to him being on the court.. almost as if there was a dude on the court that was a leader and knew what he was doing. Wild right? Even if we beat bad teams, he was a massive reason we won multiple of those 5.

Ware is the reason we won those games. And MM getting hot. Look, Leal is a nice player, but he wouldn’t sniff the floor for Illinois, Purdue, Michigan State, Northwestern, Nebraska, or even Wisconsin. 
Leal doing what he does and being one of the best players for IU is more of a inditement on Woodson not developing others players than it is Leal being some secret weapon.

Ethan Morton plays for Purdue. Leal would without a doubt play for Purdue. And the fanbase would be sayong, "should have had that Mr. Basketball. What a terrible job recruiting."

Tyson is listed as a guard on Belmont’s roster.  He’s a wing.  And he can play alongside MM is Mgbako is the 4.

His brother played for Clemson a few years back.    No knowledge but my guess he is ACC bound

Is there something to him being on the court, or that he was keeping bigger negatives off the court by playing?

It’s an indictment of Woodson not landing talented offensive perimeter players. He bombed in the portal last year (from a perimeter standpoint. Ware was a great get) and recruiting this year (so far).

 Who was he going to develop on the perimeter this year? The only choices were X, Gallo, Cupps, Gunn and Leal. The way X played I would argue none of those 5 would start for any of the top 5 of so seeded teams (Gallo would have been an important 6th man for some of them).

MM could be considered a perimeter guy and he developed. We will see if someone else develops Gunn but I don’t think we will see a whole lot unless he steps down to a Ball State type of team.

Whichever way you want to look at it, it doesn’t matter.

The most important thing is…. What are the chances its going to get any better in the portal this year? There will be no last minute 5 star high school adds this year, like the last 2 (JHS and MM). So it’s basically down to buying enough talent in the portal that Woodson can win with….for the rest of his time at IU. Because he’s not developing any underclassmen anytime soon.
