It might be possible for IU to have as good of a season as L'ville and not finish 2nd in the B1G, like they did in the ACC too. That conference was pure garbage last year - other than Puke, of course.

Just need to get pieces together and create something that will be better than what we had last year. We may not land Dix and thats sucks but like the portal will be open for a long time. We will find guys and it may not be all great year 1 but I think will have something better than just money chasers like last year.

You don't suppose we let Conwell know before leaving campus that, given the opportunity, we'd be willing to match / beat any offer he gets? Or suppose that never happened... you also don't think Conwell, being savvy about the best payday of his basketball career yet, may have gotten a number from UL and seen if any other schools wanted to give their best and final offer?

Obviously their overall pitch was better. Doubt it was purely financial. But maybe DDV doesn't get the same resources as Woody. Lol

No, I don't think Devries wanted to spend that much money on Conwell.  That's allegedly 40 percent of the low end of the range we've been given.  Texas didn't get a visit, which means they were not willing to spend what IU did, and that's the guy he got coached by last year.

It seems that it's very likely U of L and Indiana are at the very top of NIL, and he knew we were willing to spend, so he got an offer, went down there and got one from them, likely called his agent, and we didn't match.

He took his visits in this order for a reason, and it was out there he was committing this week.

Last thing I'll say tonight: Coach DeVries could land the 92 dream team for next year. He has to start winning this season. Most of us were excited last year about the portal haul and it resulted in nothing. I'm very optimistic about the program going forward. I get the frustration though...we are all tired of mediocre basketball.

That is the most important thing.  He is going to have to win out of the gate.  I get the whole "We want guys that want to be here" thing but in order to have the type of program I think we all want, there is a certain ability level that is going to be required too.

Yeah I’m calling BS Tyme is giving you accurate info on that lol

As much as I might dislike Tyme from the Woody era, he is clued in better than ANYONE else affiliated with Indiana. That includes Rabjohns. He’s been wrong. His evaluation of talent kinda sucks. Lol. But he’s got his finger on the pulse more than anyone else publicly sharing info.

I don't believe the 4M number. And if you think it's likely he called his agent and we didn't match - as you put it, DDV didn't want to spend that much on Conwell - then we weren't outbid. We passed in your scenario.

Or if you assume we were willing to match - because if the number was actually 2M (much more likely number IMO) I would have assumed we would be willing to meet that. Because why wouldn't you pay him that when you've got supposedly anywhere from 7-11M to spend and need to build a roster from scratch. He was the first guard brought on campus. You don't think DDV wanted to spend what it took to land him?

I don’t dislike him, just don’t think those numbers seem accurate.

I think the angst is because we have like 11 spots to fill and a **** ton of money and so far have (maybe) landed a back up guard.  It is early, but this has been a slooooow start.

It ain't how you start, it's how you finish!
