Potentially backs up what @Home Jerseysaid earlier. Perhaps Conwell wasn’t really interested in IU until they started throwing money in his face and the opportunity was too good to not at least entertain. Almost all of us on here are biased when it comes to IU and likely have a much different outlook/perspective than the average 18-22 year old.

That would be a very solid year 1. And as we've seen, can generate plenty of momentum as it has for UL. 

 I so agree with your post, especially the bolded. It must be incredibly difficult to sell guys on a roster of two right now. Never coached a game at Indiana. Only got to Bloomington two weeks ago. Going to be very hard to sell some guys on that. Have to be able to identify the ones who that's not a problem for - one of multiple reasons that I like the Enright pick up. 

It's going to be much easier to sell star guys to play for you at a school after you've shown you run a competent system there and win. Money helps and we should still be able to build a good roster but I think we mostly knew it was very unlikely to land all of Conwell, Dix, and Bidunga.

He actually does. Most of his contacts nowadays are in the agent world. He also still has one or two guys in the athletic department, but they generally only feed him tidbits of whatever Dolson wants him to hear. He's gonna have to rebuild his relationships within the program.

If Conwell doesn't want to be at IU then who cares? It's the mentality I had to take after the coaching search. If the big names didn't want to come, then fine. Go get guys that want to play and win at IU. I know that money plays a big role in all this, but if the vision for the coach and recruit don't align, then it's best the recruit goes elsewhere.

Have you thought about what the 13-15 roster spots will get? If men’s basketball gets $4 mil in revenue sharing, that’s $266,000 each. So paying a starter a couple mil isn’t shocking imo.

A guy I would like to see IU make a run at is Aday Mara -- just entered the portal.  He's not a kid who'll ever be a 30 min/game guy, but he's a post with some tools.  7'3" but moves well for his size.  6.4 pts/4.0 reb/1.6 blocks in 13 minutes per game last year at UCLA.

Last thing I'll say tonight: Coach DeVries could land the 92 dream team for next year. He has to start winning this season. Most of us were excited last year about the portal haul and it resulted in nothing. I'm very optimistic about the program going forward. I get the frustration though...we are all tired of mediocre basketball.

His recruiting info is good, since it's all from agents, parents and AAU.  it's the actual program info that's lacking now.  Like it's bad.

You don't suppose we let Conwell know before leaving campus that, given the opportunity, we'd be willing to match / beat any offer he gets? Or suppose that never happened... you also don't think Conwell, being savvy about the best payday of his basketball career yet, may have gotten a number from UL and seen if any other schools wanted to give their best and final offer? 

Obviously their overall pitch was better. Doubt it was purely financial. But maybe DDV doesn't get the same resources as Woody. Lol

Nope around 2 million. Indiana was offering 1.5. Indiana didn’t want to go to 2. If we lose enough recruitments we might decide to pay for the guys we want.

Hope he doesn't.  I saw a few games where he entered the game and turned it around for UCLA.  His minute increase occurred at the same time UCLA started running off their winning streak in the B1G.
