Guys relax....Ryan Conwell is not bigger than the program. He isn't the savior. Yes, he's a really good player from an hour away. Would have LOVED to have had him. It sucks to lose him. There is going to be way more out there. Let's also keep in mind Indiana already has probably one of the top guys in the portal with Tucker.

What I'm most excited about going after players like Conwell/Dix is this: We finally have a coach after 8 years who values shooting the ball. Let's see how things look in a few weeks.

Thinking the same thing.  One kid in the portal.  Have to think about multiple kids because it’s a money game.

Josh Dix knows he has us over a barrel now and just upped his NIL ask by another 500k

Are we sure he’s that much better than Luke Goode?

So up it, IMO.  But one of the Creighton burners FWIW had said Kansas offered $2 million and he left there without a deal.  Dix is pretty in demand and has taken a lot of visits.

I don't think these things help in any way

That and this: Pat Kelsey had a very good first year at Louisville. Right now, DeVries at IU is all hope and potential. We hope and think he will be good, but nothing proven yet. Pat got another top guard in the portal plus a top ten recruit for next year. Hopefully that is us next year.

I don’t hear UK players complain about it to the media like Ballo did. That doesn’t get covered like Woodson’s farewell tour, hashing out how poorly the fans treated him lol

I saw it from a bunch of schools this year. Including Iowa. It’s everywhere. Not the reason.

Kelsey has a swagger and he won this year. DeVries doesn’t have that kind of swagger and doesn’t have assistants with vivacious personalities to help. My guess, he liked Kelsey more than DeVries and believed in him more.

So let me get this straight we break the bank to get top tier talent for the lazy guy who can’t coach but we can’t do the same for an actual coach.  Smfh

Who said we aren't going to spend the money but if true 4 mil is to much to spend on Conwell. If that amount is close to being true I am not going to spend 40% of your money on one player.

Kelsey also won last year where IU didn’t.  Baby steps people and quit acting like one kid is going to kill our class.

For sure. I’m saying not THE reason, but a contributing factor because it seems to me IU is perceived as having more of it / worse of it than most other places. Not all. So, everything else being equal… it’s easy to see why a lot of players may decide other opportunities make more sense for them. You’re right though about this not really being an everything else equal situation because Kelsey has one year ahead of DeVries at his school. That does make a difference IMO

Nobody is acting like losing Conwell kills the class….but it hurts. He’s an all conference type player and from all accounts we went “all in” on him and wanted him. We lost him to Louisville who just picked up another monster guard 24 hours ago. It stings

Jealous of louisvilles backcourt now lol. Mikel brown conwell and wooley may be the best back court in the country

A lot better than ours is going to be. Thanks Woody. I’m living in a parallel universe where we hired Dusty May a year ago and are winning portal battles. I’ve got an imaginary team in my brain that’s Michigan-like that I root for. Hoping DeVries can regain my full fandom.

Last year Kelsey was all hope and potential. Didn’t stop him from landing top guards like Hepburn.

I think it’s understandable there’s a little outpour of emotion after no need for a while and now seeing a priority target go to UL. A little PTSD… I agree with your broader point though, let’s see where things stand at the end of the month

Not trying to light everyone’s hair on fire, and in no way saying this is actually the case, but… seeing Conwell, a kid from Indy, choose Louisville over IU when money was probably roughly equal (have a hard time imagining we’d let ourselves be beat there) and presumably he’d have even more carte Blanche of the offense here… it makes me think about Ballo’s video at the end of the year talking about fans sending death threats and what a poor light that put the fanbase in. The fact players should ignore chirping on social media aside, think it would be silly to pretend they don’t take notice of comments like that. Again in no way saying that’s the specific reason for anybody passing on IU but eventually perception becomes reality and instead of seeing all the good stuff, outsiders can get hung up on if they want all the trouble that comes with it… JMO

Idk if it matters in this case.  But another reason we should have cut Woodson loose last year.  It was already getting bad at the end of last year, and then they come out and look like absolute garbage right out of the gate which just fanned the flames, eventually leading to the total shitshow that was the Illinois game.  It all would have been avoided if we had done what 90% of people knew had to be done.  Woodson was never going to win here and was 66 years old.  (And there is obviously no excuse for those fringe ******* fans who DM players... they are scum)

Still a ton of talent in the portal.  Hopefully we can go get a few of them.
