I don’t know if this has been brought up or if it is even a concern but how do we know if Stevens has the drive to even coach college basketball or if he developed some of same bad NBA habits that you see with Mike Woodson.  It just seems to me that NBA coaches have a lot less responsibility than college coaches.  They don’t have to recruit and develop players, all they have to do is develop offenses that fit their players, make starting lineups, and sub players. I know I’m downsizing it some but you see my point.  So could it be a concern?

Didn’t hurt Pitino or Cal.

Simple matter of playing the odds. Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn on that rare occasion.
Yeah, but the king says you hire micah you hire micah. This king has a 7-4 record and the king runs the show

I think he’s a bad fit.  But I also think he’s the most likely hire unfortunately.

Given his buyout at UM, I think he has to be Plan B after Stevens.  Hes not as high on my list either, but for some others, he’s their #1 candidate.

Yes. But today was the first time I heard McCollam but I believe that poster.

SIAP, but how is McCollum any different than Archie was at Dayton?

McCollum would be a lot better but yes.

My concern is if we don’t get Stevens, we end up with Woody part 2. I don’t think it will happen if Dolson has a say. But my main concern isn’t that we miss yet again on Stevens. That’s just Tuesday around here.

The only truly Woody 2.0 would be Alford or Wittman or someone like that.

Well for one he’s now succeeded at multiple places.  And NW Missouri St is not Dayton.  Pretty sure they are crap again this year.  Everyone wins at Dayton.  And he doesn’t have Archie’s personality quirks.  You all know what I mean.

Sorry I was referencing Dusty.  I haven’t even begun to wrap my head around McCollum yet.  Haven’t looked that closely.   Seems like an Archie-type hire (which I thought was a great hire at the time)

I am not as familiar with McCollum as many here but I believe the case for him is basically that he’s won a remarkable number of championships below D1.

I was a mild Archie skeptic because 1) Dayton is a high-floor program and Arch didn’t stand WAY out overall, 2) going to the elite 8 is great but one nice tournament run is a thin track record without other factors, 3) Arch had been a lesser coach than his brother (admittedly with less time to do it) and was partially riding his reputation plus, to a lesser degree, other coaches he was connected to, and 4) no record of being truly consistently excellent either overall or on one side of the ball from an efficiency standpoint; if I recall he never had a top 25 O or D at Dayton on Kenpom.

A guy like that can work out! But a lot of somewhat flimsy stuff was carrying water for him and it turned out it was, indeed, flimsy.

Am I reading this correctly?  McCollum has been a D2 coach and this is his first year in D1?  Not suggesting it’s a bad thing (ie Bo Ryan non D1).

it seems like a stretch hire on paper, but admittedly haven’t looked too closely into him.

He won 4 national championships, Maybe at a different level but he built a winning culture. Also any coach you hire is not a sure fire guarantee. Just because one mid major failed doesn't mean you shy away from other mid major coaches.

RMK Army to IU

Coach K Army to Duke

Calhoun Northeastern to UCONN

Oats Buffalo to Alabama

Hurley Rhode Island to UCONN

McCollum would be a similar hire as a Bo Ryan.  Bo won multiple championships at the D3 level then moved up to Milwaukee at a lower win percentage then to Wisconsin.  McCollum has won 4 D2 National Championships.  He is 15-2 right now with wins over Miami, Vandy, and KSU and first place in the MVC in year one.
