This isn't the program it used to be, you got that right. Guess the younger fans are supposed to be okay with that because the old school crew deserves their day in the sun? Give me a break. And I'm saying that as someone who goes easier on Woody than most

I never said anything about those two because they should be gone. You younger fans say you don't care what they did 40 years ago but that is the era that brought those standards to IU.

On this chart, they're in the 120s. Right now they're 118. IU 97.

Ugly. No reason to believe it gets better. Rip the band aid off and salvage the legacy of these program giants. Even if they aren't ready to let go. Frankly, I believe that's the AD's job. Buckner in his role as BOT obviously Dolson can't control, but he can influence. Protect Woody from himself and preserve his place in Hoosier glory.

Those comments are directed to the segment of the fanbase that rejects change and refuses to acknowledge that the college basketball world in 2023 is far different than it was in 1983. That segment is part of the problem. Not because they’re “older,” but because of the beliefs they hold.

I think @Hoosierfan2017 and @Scotty R are onto something.

Theres a real element for younger fans of knowing that we’ve had a special history, and wanting it restored and to experience it for themselves in their era.

Whereas the older fans merely want it restored.

If I’m a dyed in the wool younger IU fan? I’m kinda pissed that I don’t have some spectacular times during my era. Hence, a lower tolerance for crappy basketball and team culture.

Put yourself in the shoes of a different generation of IU fans. Both perspectives make sense.

I don’t really care what they did 40+ years when I’m forming my feelings about someone. Why would I? Some fans still love Woodson and Buckner because they have fond memories of what they did as IU basketball players in the 70s. I didn’t experience any of it. They’re just names in the record books. My only memories of those two are Mike Woodson’s coaching tenure.

 I remember one game Brian Sloan was head hunting to screen for shooter/s that was a strategy in a pretty high profile game (can’t remember the opponent) The strategy worked as IU won the game.

How many screens has this version of the hurri’n Hoosiers set?  Or since the year 2000?

He was awesome.  And **** Vitale would just go nuts.  Sloan would screen, turn screen, move a little, screen, turn screen.  Vitale would be counting them out 1 - 2- 3- 4.  Interesting enough, I caught a bit of an FAU game, and guess what they had "that guy."  Now get off my lawn.  :)

I do appreciate Buckner and Woodson as players... I saw them play - Buckner in person, Woodson on television... but what they did then and what they are doing today are vastly different, and diametrically opposed to each other. Simply put, THIS is not THAT.

So if all you have seen is mediocrity why are your standards for IU so high for the program. I am upset that I have to watch old games on YouTube to actually see great IU basketball. Today I watched the last great IU team 92-93 so I can actually see IU play a great brand of basketball

Because only three schools have more national championships than IU basketball. Because IU is centrally located in a basketball rich state with tons of local talent. Because IU has one of the largest fan bases with one of the best home atmospheres in the country. Because IU has every tool at its disposal to succeed in college basketball. And it’s frustrating as hell watching them squander those tools year in and year out. 

Mediocrity is something you expect and accept from a program without those intangibles
