The bottom line is even though some said he knew it was over weeks ago clearly he didn't. He really thought he might get another year it seems

He definitely did or at least believed he had enough support to get that. He wanted it clarified a couple of weeks ago and did not get the response he wanted.

He wanted an immediate assurance that he would be the coach next season, and was told that any determination wouldn’t occur until the current season ended. He pushed back at a few levels and did not receive the commitment he wanted, and it evolved quickly from there. He was treated as fairly as anyone could expect to be.
Dude was 5-7 with a six million dollar roster and was asking about another year? Good lord is he delusional about his coaching

If IU saw this debacle of a season and needed to wait until the end to decide, then they're beyond incompetent.

If what she said is true about Woodson asking about year 5 he should just be glad he didn't get laughed out of the state; no one else would've even given him an interview for the job, much less 4 years to show he's clueless.

Ahh, of course. Mike Woodson doesnt let IU start the process, Mike Woodson starts the process. Although, this further confirms what we have heard about Woodson by people not named Kathy.  He's ego driven and doesn't care about IU.  Imagine losing 6 of 7 (or whatever it was at the time the "process" started) and expecting to be given yet another vote of confidence for another year.
Guy blows 6 million dollars and expects more.  Good riddance.

Just proves my point he thinks he was owed this job for life. I mean he did play here 179 years ago

It was over because the few people hanging on realized they couldn't defend him anymore. So, if you want to get technical, it wasn't over until the press release was released. He was 100% cooked after the Illinois game.

Maybe, but they weren’t going to move on from him or even have that conversation until the year ended. He jumped started everything.

He didn’t ask about it, he wanted an assurance of it.

So you want us to believe the guy who barely survived last season. Even you came here and said that. Then goes on to get embarrassed in the Bahamsas so bad that he was hiding in his hotel room, then blown out on the road to Nebraska, Iowa, and at home to ILL was asking if he was going to get his 5th year. That is a little much for even you Kathy. Enjoy the rest of the season.

He wanted an assurance about his status, and he thought he had the support to possibly get it. He didn’t. I realize you thought he was done before Maryland, but that was never happening and was never discussed.

I guess he just didn't respect the process did he? Did he not know that this was the way we have done it from Ralph Flyold to Fred Glass.

I sure as heck that the next coach respects the process. I'm going to vote right now that you sit them down after being hired and let them know this is how IU athletics handles things and get them started in the right direction. We thank you for your service at this fine University

This started well before you found out last Wednesday what was going on, though it was never going to culminate in him not coaching against Maryland. That scenario never existed, as we knew at the time.

Hindsight is 20/20. It's pretty easy to come here and say crap that can't be proven either way. You've lost any credibility that you had here w/ your word salad and condescension.  You were wrong and can't just deal with it

So Woody wanted assurances he’d be coaching next year and didn’t hear what he wanted. “IU wanted to wait and asked him to do the same but he chose not to.” So IU was going to let him walk into the Michigan game without minimally saying he’s done at end of the season? Idk… Woodson’s camp leaked the contemplating retirement story to ESPN A) to save face before the statement was released by IU B) to blow up IU’s preference of announcing at end of season, possibly undermining our chances with candidates at other schools who will parlay this into an extension… he was “treated like family” so assume the leak didn’t come from the AD… though certainly could have … Hardest part for me to believe about that is probably the idea IU would let him coach vs. Michigan without some kind of announcement beforehand or it would’ve been brutal. How much advantage do other schools wanting to extend their coach really have anyway just because it’s officially been announced? IMO, not much of one, probably… thank goodness he and his drama are done soon.

That's not any better and doesn't change my point.

If anything it's worse, wanting assurances after this fiasco and last season's train wreck he'd have to be completely out of his mind.
