This may have been said already, missed a few 100 pages in the last three weeks, but I bet these players will play their hardest the rest of the year. I don’t think anybody is going to get a sniff from the draft and they will want to show their new coach what they can do, whether that is Indiana, another college, or some professional league. They are playing for next year’s salary right now. No free ride for year two of the players with eligibility. If I were rice, Carlyle, Mgbako, Reneau I would be laser focused this last month+. Gallo, Leal, Goode will be playing for the name on the front of the jersey. Ballo will give effort, not worried about him either.

This is why you don't hire an IU guy just to be hiring an IU guy.  The breakup is messy.

Very poor decision by all those involved

Yep. And the legacies of two Hoosier basketball legends -- Mike Woodson and Quinn Buckner -- are now very much tarnished.

In a way, it's almost kinda sad.

Where’s @BGleas, does he still have some Celtics connections?

I've missed about 100 pages, so sorry if this has already been debated to death, but nothing has really changed in terms of my stance on Stevens. I think it's an extreme long shot at best.

My info on Stevens is 4 years old, and people of course change, time changes things and circumstances change, but like I said I would be stunned if Stevens coaches in college again.

It was not close last time.

The one caveat I would grant people that think it's possible this time is the Celtics ownership situation. I don't know where that stands.

If Wyc ends up not selling or if Steve Pagliuca figures out how to purchase managing ownership then I think Stevens for sure stays, if it's someone else then who knows? Of course, the IU job will most likely be filled before the Celtics ownership situation is figured out.

I will be stunned if Stevens is the IU coach. But, I also would have been stunned if you told me Luka was getting traded a week ago.

IF Stevens were to return to coaching do you think he has the drive to excel, to grind?  I know he once was a great coach but can that energy be rekindled?

I think he does. Those things wouldnt be an issue in my mind at all. The guy is a student of the game, as smart a basketball person as you can find, etc., etc.

Anyone writing negative comments under X's post is an idiot.  This isn't X's fault (assuming he isn't SDB) and it's perfectly reasonable that he wants to support his old coach.  This is coming from someone who does not like X.

Quinn, Fergie, and friends 100% brought this on themselves.  They treated IUBB like their personal playground and ran it into the ground.  I still can't get over how selfish they were as stewards of program that means so much to the university, its alumni/fans, and Bloomington/the state.  Literally disgusting behavior.

In six months, Quinn will be off the board and focused on the Pacers and other things.  Mike will be in Georgia or wherever he normally lives and go back to not following IUBB.  I'm sure they'll quickly forget about the last four years.  One thing they won't forget is the extra $18M Quinn got Woody with the IU contract, I bet they strategize on how to spend and invest that.  How nice.

Meanwhile, IU, Dolson, and the new coach/staff will be stuck cleaning up the mess these two selfish men left behind.

Well said!  It’s almost over but it was still very ugly nonetheless!

Yep all while claiming they love iu. No they don't they love their buddy and making him rich. The whole thing is just nauseating. I read the statement again from yesterday and they did not once mention the last four years of coaching. Because they know how badly Woodson screwed this up. What a cancer he and his buddies were. Archie was bad but at least he tried. Woodson was a part time lazy coach

But well deserved. They did this to themselves.

It works.

archive.is/www.indystar.com/story/sports/columnists/gregg-doyel/2025/02/07/indiana-basketball-asked-mike-woodson-to-resign-then-told-him-its-over-iu-step-down-retirement-fired/78344378007/#

It's worth a read. It basically says what we've been saying on this board. A real Woodson takedown.

Just as expected is my response after reading that article…we had woody figured out….what a POS…oh sorry, I know there were a couple of pearl, clutches who were admonishing for being personal….well, it’s personal because his personality caused this.

Well the only reason i bought in was the roles Thad Matta and Dane Fife were playing in this and even that, I was still curious to see how it was going to work.  When he fired Fife and Marta’s role became insignificant and then he left, I sorta of knew then and started to become skeptical.  Mike Woodson was starting to show his true colors and everything snowballed from there.  MW wasn’t a good person and his sense of entitlement and arrogance really truly turned me off him.  He wasn’t worth $200  / year and yet they paid him over $4 million/year.  What a freaking rip off.

This ^^^ completely. He's a nice guy to Mike Woodson, Armond Hill, Steve Ferguson, Quinn Buckner and his Fellas Lounge buddies... that's about it as far as I'm concerned.

(Clutches pearls...)

Hey, he is not a POS. Really do not like saying those things about a fellow human being.

He "may have" his priorities wrong.  He may have a rough personality and approach to control issues.  Etc.  He may not know the difference between an X and an O.

(Throws pearls away!)

Dagnabit!  He should not have been hired.  WTF anyhow?!  Holy Flung Poo, Batman!  BEGONE WOODY.

Go IU!

(Looking for lost pearls and marbles...)

Thanks!  It did work.  Everything spot on!  This whole thing spiraled out of control when he ignored Matta and fired Fife.  Woodson thought he was the smartest guy in the room and had all the answers.  Now I am not saying this would have worked even with Fife or Matta, but Woodson was never willing to give it a chance and now here we are.  Woodson is an idiot!
