That’s never going to be right.  A former Indiana player that zero fans wanted or 50% wanted is always going to be the issue.  Woodson just has always sucked as a coach.  Dumb decision.  Alford will be a powder keg and will be even worse even though he would win more.  Good enough to be decent.  Never good enough to win it. 
 

Former players shouldn’t be making decisions period.

Agree with Demo here and would add two other points I’ve made before:

1. It’s possible — preferable! — to evaluate a coach based on more than tournament success.

2. May’s situation in FAU makes his success remarkable even if they’d lost to Memphis in R64 last year.

This is for Chris or anyone familiar with the process.  We have 4 potential recruits coming in for the Michigan State game.  I think I read that Sisley, Mullins, Reynolds and Sularski are unofficial visits.  Do they have a player host for the weekend?  Which players does the staff use?  Does Dolson meet with the players and parents or just the coaching staff?  Thanks to anyone with knowledge of the process.

I think one thing is clear and we could get pearl if we wanted too. So all this nonsense talk the last 10 years that no good coach ould ever come here is complete bs as I thought it was. People who claimed we took Woodson cause everyone else turned us down are just morons.

Too many negative memories still around with with Archie so I wouldn't be thrilled with a May hire. Feels like Archie 2.0 with a nice IU connection. 

But hell yeah, I'd take him over Woody.

I would not. Collins has had his chance at a Big Ten university for several years and can't cut it. He has had more talent across the board than May while May has done more with less. 

Over the last two seasons Collins has gone 42-31. Collins has had an average of 49 O rating and a 51 D rating per Bart Torvik while pulling in the #81 and #67 ranked recruiting classes per 247 sports. 

May has gone 57-11 (while playing more major conference teams in the non-conference than Collins and NW). His O rating is an average of 26.5 with a defensive rating average of 86.5. May has done this while landing the #180 and #97 recruiting classes. 

Collins has made 2 tournaments in his 11 years at NW (projected to make his 3rd this year) with an average seed of 8. 

May took FAU to the tourney (for the first time ever) as a 9 seed and took them to the final four. They are projected to make the tournament again this season. May will have taken FAU to almost as many tournaments as Collins in half the amount of years and with far less overall talent. 

I am not saying May is the answer long term over others, however, Chris Collins should be no where near this coaching search or discussion.

To this day the Woodson hire still blows my mind. At least archie had some success in college. I am certainly not the smartest man in the room like Woodson but I knew day one it would never work.

If you're a trustee you're going to inherently have a deep, personal connection to the university. At least I would hope so.

And that connection will inform far more important things than basketball ... such as ... academics and research! If basketball was really enjoyable during a trustee's time at IU and they're passionate about that too? Understandable and completely appropriate.

 

Agree. There seems to be a number of people who think the only thing a BOT member does is oversee the basketball program. Those same people then turn around and call the BOT members "clueless". A bit ironic, I'd say.

We are not going from Archie to Woodson to Collins... I'll quit. 

**** is boring as hell and has been for 7 years. Creans teams were sooooooo much better to watch than what we've seen the last 7 years.
