They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

I bet they're scared to death Woodson will badmouth the program after he's gone, and that's why they're so desperate for him to step down.

Losing program doing losing program things.

scared of what Woodson would say.  Yeah right.  That's the pot calling the kettle, well you know the thing.  :)

Curious why you are so certain he is going to finish the year vs. retire and step away.
He very well could, and you could be right, but nothing has been announced yet. “Specifics”, “Announcement” still to come per everything I’ve read.

Because IU isn’t going to forcibly remove a coach in the middle of the season because he lost some games. That’s just not who they are or what they’re about. Never have, never will.

I would guess the leak is not from the coach’s side, all things considered. It doesn’t give him any leverage.

I understand the “why is THIS the story?” thought, and I am not an insider, nor an agent/lawyer (though we have some of each group here, so chime in if I’m wrong).

I believe the rub is that if he’s fired, he gets the contract, I believe at $1M/year until he’s paid what he’s due. If he retires, he forfeits what he’s owed.

My guess is that he DOESN’T want to be fired, DOES want the whole pot of $, and thus wants to have it both ways.

So the sorts of delays we’re living with are probably negotiations to amend the terms of the separation such that he gets less than he’s owed but also gets to claim he’s retired. And given his status as “one of our own,” it’s probably best for the program to work with him if the number negotiated is reasonable.

Think they’re a black history month jersey. All the women’s teams have worn them with their own logo the only icon on the top.

Ahhh.. thx I can respect the BHM aspect then.. also, seems Teri Moren lit a fire under her team after a slow 1st half...

since I have your attention Jerry, I hope you are not BS-ing us with the "we got our guy" comment... :)

All these blue checkmark guys say, "Yeah, yeah, call Stevens. You have to but he's not taking the job." On here, we get the drift it's WAY more likely to actually happen. Someone help me understand the disconnect between the 2 views on this. Everyone under the sun that isn't on HERE seems to think it's the most unlikely thing to ever be mentioned. Do we get the damn WHITE WHALE or not?! I'm putting my trust in my guys on this forum!

Of course, any "retirement" announcement will guarantee Woody getting the full remaining $ on his contract otherwise he would never agree to it.  Mike is dumb but not that dumb.

Not doubting our guys here at all, but believing the GM of the Boston Celtics would leave his job to coach the Indiana Hoosiers is insane.  (I'm a little insane)
