When the season started Matt Torvik had IU going 11-9 in the conference.

In his updated analytics (ie after our actual “performances”) he now has IU going 8-12 in the conference. I think 8-12 is our ceiling and that we will be in the 6-14 to 8-12 range, we will miss the tourney and any remaining “grey area in regards to the administration keeping Woody” will be erased.

This first conference game will be telling.

Rutgers has played some really good basketball at times, and with Harper and Bailey they can get by with raw talent compared to IU at the same positions.

Wouldn’t surprise me if we beat Rutgers, but it also wouldn’t surprise me if we lose to them by double digits.  And if that happens, the avalanche will begin.

Yeah, that’s a big one.
FWIW Torvik gives IU a 73% chance of beating Rutgers which is the highest percentage of any of our remaining 18 conference games. Lose against Rutgers and, as you said, the avalanche will begin.  If we beat Rutgers the avalanche will merely be delayed a little bit.

My best guess is that we actually do okay against Rutgers since they’re young and aren’t strong defensively this year.

But Sunday, at Penn State, we’ll get embarrassed in true Mike Woodson fashion.

Yea we are due to hit some threes at better clip (which for us is like 25+%) which at home should be enough for us to get by Rutgers. That being said, Rutgers has given us fits before when they shouldn’t have. Pikiel seems to find a way to gum up games, so a loss is 100% possible and anyone saying otherwise hasn’t watched us play Rutgers basketball.

If the team that shows up is the IU that’s played the last three games we are going to get dog walked out of our building. If they come out and build a solid lead I think we can get a win. Penn State is a loss. I’d be shocked if we go on the road and win that one.

The big problem IMO, is we have to hope the other teams lay an egg. We can’t rely on IU to be better and win close against a team playing well. Woodsons teams collapse (or quit if you’re so inclined, but I think it’s more lack of coaching leadership) when they face adversity. It’s the reason he’s got an absurd number of double digit losses and a couple of ties for worst losses in IU history. Our games have gotten more about what the other teams do versus what IU does or causes (defense) the other teams to do. It’s a recipe for mediocre to bad basketball.

Yep, I'm calling it now. If we lose to Rutgers, he'll announce his retirement by the end of January.

This is so true.  The few big games that Woodson has won against ranked teams it has been because the opponent missed wide open threes.  We didn't shut anyone down.  We gave up threes and the other team simply missed.

In what alternate universe am I living in where it’s an expected loss at Penn State?  SOBs beat Purdon’t and lost to Rutgers.  Please wake me up from this nightmare.

Fire Woodson

The same alternate universe in which we can’t beat Northwestern or Nebraska.

Need a Rugters win tomorrow to get the new year going right with our mission to get Mike Woodson fired!

I almost forgot the legendary king of indiana goes tomorrow. Just another day he will do his job. The only 66 year old man alive without one grey hair!

Just think about it our coach is a living legend.

If I am quinn I lock him up with a 7 year deal so he can retire here. Maybe like 5.5 million a year. If not somebody is going to nab this legend. I also think he needs 9 million in NIL next year. Step it up Simon's

Just a couple comments about the staff…

1.) The staff that remains has learned that Woodson only listens to Mike Woodson.  They are there to do what he wants. This works for a few elite head coaches, but Woodson misses major stuff and still refuses to listen.

2.) I’ve gotten mixed messages on this, but  I’m not certain Woodson has the ability to fire some of the staff like say, Calbert.  His own assistants, yes.  But outside of that, I think that’s it.  Trying to connect the dots, but I think that’s why the Howard thing was a mess and Dolson offered him another job in the department.

3.) One of Dane Fife’s good friends was just hired at the University of Michigan (where Dane is from) as the head basketball coach and he (to my knowledge) did not offer him an assistant coach position. That should tell us something.

Fife has had opportunities to get back into coaching. He hasn’t wanted to.

Fife was intimidated by the king. He was likely in awe the whole time which makes it hard to do your job. I mean I would be too Woodson is a living legend and an icon. He really is the king of indiana.

I know this is a joke. Fife learned from bobby knight and was on bench for a legend of Izzo for years. Woodson did play for knight but apparently learned zero

That’s a major under-achievement and pathetic!  It comes down to one thing, no matter what excuses MW has, coaching!  He’s the worst coach in the B10, IMO. There is no coach in the B10 who has this much talent, who cannot under-achieve this much other than one Mike Woodson

That’s the biggest head scratcher, how could this guy be this bad at coaching but played for one of the best coaches, game preparation and in-game adjustments in CBB history, yes my opinion, and be this freaking bad?
