Fire Coach Woodson Thread

Not sure if you're being sarcastic or not, but I was actually struck by how gently Luke turned him around and put his arm around him. It seemed very "get grandpa moving in the right direction" as apposed to "come on coach do the right thing."  I don't know, probably reading too much into it, but if you watch at how quickly Woody acquiesced and how gently he turned him around, it felt like more about taking care of him than Woody deliberately shunning the handshake line. Either way, its all just sad. The program is sad.

Clearly something was "off" with him. He seemed confused.

Is Woodson's wife in Bloomington with him or does she stay in Atlanta? I'm curious, as I don't recall ever having seen her at the games... does she attend any of them?

I saw photos last year of her going to see Mullins' sectional game with Woodson, but she did not appear to be happy or engaged.

It’s heartbreaking to watch this happening right before our eyes. An IU legend being booed, mocked and dragged - by his own right or not - is saddening. I’m as guilty as anyone, but how can we fans be blamed? The University created this mess.

I was not even around when Woodson played, but I know how painfully terrible this is. Why does our University make things so much harder for itself? Tradition is obviously big at Indiana, but why have they allowed us to get away from it as far as product on the court for as long as we have? I have so many questions and most are culture/process-centric.

She went to Mullins Friday night sectional game with him last year.

That was when Woody most likely got ordered to go and we were being told how toxic we were for hating crappy basketball.

Woodson never should have been hired.  If QB really was his friend he would have told him he wasn’t up to the task.  At best QB is his accomplice in a giant grift.

You’re right, and that leads to more questions. Scott needs to do the program-analysis he did for football and hopefully he’s already well into it. He better have.

Which goes back to my theory that he knew something was off about Woody but helping his friend was more important... bringing in Matta to help him get acclimated to college ball? I call bulls*it...

Woodson won’t be here next year. I think that’s a given. But,  if you watch cbb and listen to most coaches complain about the current landscape I’m not confident things change that much. No accountability from players who get guaranteed money or can easily transfer. Like Painter said it’s like dating in middle school.

Really shocked how quiet dolson has been through all of this. I mean when the fans have turned so negative they are booing and chanting to be fired. Is it not normal for the athletic director to step in and calm the storm somehow?

I don't think he wants to.  I think he wants all the clowns to see what they did to this once great program so they scury away in disgrace.    He knows, with the right coach this thing is turned around in a few months.

I’m sure I’m not the only one but I’m ready for this season to be over and it’s January. Woodson and some other fans can tell me to go find another program but I really just have no heart for this program this season. Maybe if an interim took over I would watch with the idea of hope of getting a couple wins. Then again you don’t want an interim to kill it or they might be considered for the job. Personally if Woodson was back next year I probably wouldn’t even bother investing a minute to watching. Everything is toxic it makes me mad/upset. I never believed in Woodson and I’m ready for Indiana to be able to shoot the 3 ball again and play defense.

NIL packages will need to start having performance incentives.

Kind of why need a core of players who want to play for XYZ, no matter what.  Indiana guys like Leal, Goode, and from what I hear, Sisley.  Then supplement them with portal transfers to fill in needs and upgraded talent where necessary.  Find guys who understand that it's about the team, and the money stuff will take care of itself if the team is successful.

If they can Woody and have an interim, I would probably actually watch the rest of this season just to see how these guys react to a different voice and knowing the interim will only be that for the remainder of the season. I don't think SD will f*ck up this next hire...

I think there are still plenty of kids who want to be coached hard. I also think that most if not all have dreams of playing in the NBA or overseas.  They know they need to work and to be coached to reach those types of goals. What we are seeing a team that has taken on the identity of the coaching staff IMO. Lethargic, disorganized, and generally not having any fun in systems they know set them up for failure. I have softened my views considerably on the players as this has gone on. They all show flashes of what they were advertised to be/skill sets, but all of them (including Ballo) are being mismanaged in one way or another. That final play was microcosm of our team under Woody.

Our problems go far beyond player accountability and lack of contracts, but I agree with you that needs to be addressed by college sports as a whole.

I went back and rewatched it.  This is very true in regard to Woody.   It really appeared that he was confused and Goode had to help him out. But what about the assistant coach he turns around before that?   That had nothing to do with anything like that.
