Fire Coach Woodson Thread

Recommended Posts

While everyone in here is just waiting on the inevitable which will be Woody gone after this year you guys might as well watch some actual teams that are coached by good college basketball coaches and watch some mid major teams.  I know most don’t want to watch if IU is bad but don’t miss out on good basketball because IUs coach stinks.  MWC, SoCon and MVC are must watch.   I would adid every game in the SEC is must watch.   Again this is just to pass the time before Woody is gone next year because he is cooked, done and finished.   It’s already over

I would add Michigan to your must-watch list.

Dusty May is a missed Memphis box out away from still being a complete unknown.

How’s the narrative holding up today? Still just a bunch of fans mad at Woodson because someone told us to be? Or can we admit it doesn’t take a savant to understand that 22 losses by 14 or more in 3.5 years is unacceptable?

For people in this thread might be too hard to watch them.   I agree they are fun to watch however they have flaws that will prevent them from making a run in March.   They got to clean up the TO situation and stop letting teams come back on them.  Wolf is a beast

Things like this make me sad! Iu basketball should be enjoyable to watch. You can't win all the games but to come out and play like last night should be a very rare occasion!

Yup. It’s not just that we lose, it’s the way we lose. Woodson’s losses are bad. They’re embarrassing blowouts

Maybe.  They can also improve, because they are well-coached.  I won't be too surprised to see them in the Elite 8.  And they were 3-17 in the B1G last year.  Amazing job by Dusty.  ANOTHER amazing job, I should say.

Dusty’s team is fun to watch.  All new players, and you don’t hear the excuse like Woodson makes of “ we have 7 new players that are trying to learn each other.” lol, as if every other team isn’t dealing with the same issue. It’s the NIL era, Mike….

Woody wanted IU to have  a seat at the table with the big boys in college basketball.   Big boys separate themselves from others by winning high level games.  Those games are Q1a games

Home- 1-15

Neutral- 1-25

Road- 1-40

when separating teams pushing for 1 seeds in the tourney it can come down to how a team performs in the Q1a area

in 3.5 years Woodys record against these teams is 6-23.

Year 1-(2-8)

Year 2- (4-6)

Year 3- (0-7)

Year 4- (0-2) so far

3 of Woodys 6 Q1a wins are against Purdue.

Which is worse:

The NBA has a tendency to recycle coaches and Woodson still couldn't get another shot after 2014.

IU is so incompetently run they saw the fact no one wanted him as a green light.

I think Quinn wanted to help his friend whose NBA career had hit a wall.  His IU contract was 4x what he was making as an NBA assistant.  Rich people love helping out their friends.  They made up other nonsense to justify it -- he's an IU guy, he's a bridge, and he will be a stabilizer.  The idea of hiring a coach on a shorter term basis to stabilize the program was total nonsense, nothing is more destabilizing than coaching changes.

Anyways here we are.  What a 3.5 years it's been.

It wasn’t IU. It was Buckner who had the IU athletic department backed into a corner because of a promise Glass had made and then broke.

It’s completely depressing watching how it should be done.

After Dolson whiffed on Steven’s I can see how he wouldn’t have the political capital to fend off QB, but the whole affair—as told on here—is hilariously incompetent.

Arguably, the only competent action was Glass breaking his initial promise (which was dumb) and hiring Archie when he came available, but in classic IU fashion that failed miserably too.

It’s possible we’re cursed at this point. May need to call in a New Orleans voodoo doctor to get this sorted out.

Yea, Glass was right to ignore Woody as an option, but he just got it wrong with Archie.  Part of the issue was he didn’t have experience as an AD.  I’m hopeful Scott has learned a lot of lessons from the failures he has observed over the years.

And purely FWIW, at that time, Archie was considered an up and coming coach.  Unfortunately he turned out to be a down and outing coach.
