Fire Coach Woodson Thread

Looking at the Kenpom top 50 teams, there just aren't a lot of big name or proven coaches that you can see moving from their current schools.  Pearl and Brian Dutcher are 64 already and the rest wouldn't meet the big name or proven coach requirement that people want to put on the program.  Chris Collins might be the best we could get.  This is why missing on Dusty was so frustrating to me and many on this board.

I'm guessing that Chris Collins looks at NW being a better job than IU right now. Probably why he hasn't been a candidate at UofL

True and very sad for both Louisville and IU.

So torn. The fan in me hopes he gets a few guys. I think I know the answer, but is there enough pride and will to win that he adjusts to what he does? He finally stopped his ridiculous rotations and substitutions and played guys more minutes. It cost him the Rutgers game and the KENPOM rating in barely beating the buy game teams.

The other side of me hopes he bombs and we finally end this nightmare coaching hire. Just don't know how to feel and it's sad as a lifelong fan.

I bet he will have forgotten that substitution lesson by November.  He has had to relearn it every year.

This is exactly where I'm at. Even if he fails who are we going to get to coach? Louisville let it go on too long and I'm afraid we are doing the same season.

Exactly and the arrogance of the BOT not thinking Dusty May was a good option will come back to haunt. He'll win and raid the state for talent and IU will be left perpetually in rebuild mode! Joke!!!!!SMH!!!!!!!!!!!!

This will be the best thing said in this thread today. I'm sure of it and it's only 10:30 in the morning, Eastern Time. LOL

If Leal plays 20 minutes a game next year, IU isn't sniffing the tournament. The reason that IU was better at the end of the season was three-fold.

1.) KW was playing out of his mind.
2.) MM had finally figured out how to play at the college level.
3.) IU's opponents weren't very good. And the one "good" opponent was massively inconsistent.

If LCS thinks any "success" that IU experienced last year was predicated on Leal getting 20+ minutes in any game, I don't know what to tell you. I'd love to have the opportunity to sell LCS some amazing, life-changing products, though...LOL

Why don’t you make it some mind-altering products instead!

UL seemingly getting further down their list of wants is really concerning, particularly when we let Dusty slip away in conference. There is also a very real chance next year is Cal's last at Kentucky. I really do not want our job open at the same time as UK.

We've already let it go on too long.

My worry is he does just enough to make the tournament and they use that as justification to keep him and we're stuck in this until he decides to hang them up.

Hard to have continuity when the staff believes in only recruiting 1-2 year players and not 4 year guys.

Built in excuse. 25 games into the season he can use the "it's a new team" excuse after another loss.

Don't worry, NGW says we got this on lock.  Woodson is just brilliant and we are morons and this is all just a genius working the process.

I cannot wait until November to see this brilliant new approach to basketball that Mike Woodson is working this offseason.  We should be Big Ten favorites with our Top 5 salary and our ability to completely outbid people by not having money tied up in high schoolers.  Expect to win the event in the Bahamas to start the year.

These dumbasses pull this **** every summer.  By the bar they are setting, anything less than 25 wins and the Sweet 16 should be viewed as a failure.

IU has so far landed 0 players from the portal despite supposedly already having interest from some players before the season even ended and having a ton of money to spend. His explanation (excuse) is that IU will just have to "choose wisely," ignoring that they have 1/2 a team worth of scholarships to fill. At this point, IU doesn't have to be picky.

I wanted to check Tyme out on twitter because I have never seen him before. I'm blocked. Not sure how I'm blocked from someone I've never even seen on there before. It has to be NGW. I love it Woodson is playing chess while all the other coaches are playing checkers.

He tweets about you constantly, so he probably searched for your account and blocked you.

The most sickening thing to me about all these burners on Twitter is not that they are looking for reason to be hopeful (I do too, most fans do) but the fact they're genuinely giddy about everyone else being "proven wrong" when Woody lands recruits. Fielding a full roster is not making a statement or proving anyone wrong LOL and the fact they are so sure that everyone else is overreacting (as opposed to them doing mental gymnastics to justify everything), to the point of being downright combative... is unfortunate. I'm sure they'll say they are responding in kind, and I get that negativity can feel overwhelming at times, but you cannot escape reality even if you don't want to hear it. Hopefully they're enjoying constructing their own version of reality. Frankly unless we go to a F4 next year, they are the ones who will be dead wrong and ironically, the same people crapping over message board people and "blogger boys" will have been doing what they mock others for - getting their hopes up over a different group of people acting like "insiders" ... (Lord help whoever buys what NGW is selling).

This is the same thing IUBB always does, because it's become a toxic relationship for a lot of fans and people are caught in that cycle. There is no way to ignore the fact Woodson poured an accelerant on the flames by being divisive with his "true fans" comment.

A lot of fans on Twitter are acting like fielding a team in itself is a win or that we're just a few pieces away from winning it all. Celebrating the idea of recruiting wins in the portal is more exciting to them than getting it done on the court. People say it's never as great or as bad as it seems but IUBB feels like it is in a really, really awful place right now. A few good players next year does not change that.
